Picked up my 99 Cerbie on Friday and noticed on the way home that the steering was VERY heavy when going slow. When I got home, I noticed that the power steering fluid was well below the minumum mark, so bought some from halfords and topped it up.

Took it out for a blast yesterday and everything seemed fine. Woke up this morning and noticed a pool of red oil on the floor. It is just underneath the engine (maybe slightly towards the drivers side), but stretches halfway down underneath the transmission towards the back wheels. I'm assuming it's all power steering related.

Anyone with any guidance / advice / costs?

Hi

Not sure of the answer, although it sounds like the power steering. Have a look for loose pipes/clips etc... If you picked it up Friday, i'm assuming you bought it private. If not take it back for them to have a look.

Any idea if the pump seals are difficult to get at? ie. is it likely to be expensive?

Not sure, sorry.

Didn't realise I could alter my profile name. Got rid of the '69'.

I had some leaking oil from my PAS. It needed the steering rack rebuilding. From memory about 600 quid (although my warranty paid). My dealer took it off, and it got rebuilt at the factory.

Have changed the rack seals last year myself, local bearing services store, had some std type seals,
Can change them without removing rack

However 12 months on its leaking slightly, have not had a proper look yet
