Im rebuilding my 4.5 and im tninking of going back to the original bilsteins and springs, what are they like? ,my gaz shocks are awful ,the rebound is like a pogo stick so they will be going no matter what.

The originals were the biggest limiting factor to the cars handling, they are what gave it its reputation for bad handling near the limit.

If you can bite the bullet and go for Nitron or if that is a step too far the racing reds.

I've got Ohlins under advisement of Andy @ APM. It's what both Jonny and Mike both use on their racing Cerbs (albeit in higher spec and multi adjustable guise). Been very happy with them, both for road and track (the latter just with a few extra clicks wound on). People will say good shocks are a waste unless you are heavy trackday user, funnily enough I found that road driving is when they are at their best. With the Ohlins you can go quite soft on spring as the shock will do the clever st to control the movement - an alternative cheap shock might be bolstered with a hard spring, sold as "track spec" so you grin and bear the crashy ride biggrin Or as you may have, softly spring and then just hopeless body control.

At least that's my layman's understanding of it all, all I know is that I've been very happy and I came to them from Bilsteins (although to be fair, ones that were past the sell by). Press car ran Ohlins too, so you can even claim it references how they should have been biggrin

Ohlins have a fantastic reputation. It's highly unlikely you'll be disappointed with those if you went that route - assuming of course that they're set up by someone who knows what they're doing. smile

I have ran avo's when i bought my cerb found them great on the road and track, I had one fail and the other 3 were getting on so i fitted nitrons with eibach springs on a softer spring set up. It is great on the road (Not tracked it yet with nitrons) and i had the car set up by Track V road and it drives superb very compliment on even the worst pot holed roads.

As for Gaz ihad them on my Chimaera and hated them, I had the car set up and they did not compare to the standard bilsteins in any way as you say pogo stick, You get what you pay for with suspension and i imagine Ohlins will be a step above nitrons again.

My Bilsteins are fantastic. All new with new tuscan2s spec springs. Still a gt car, lovely on a cruise, B road blast, but does trackdays really good too.

I had the Bilsteins on mine until 60K and thought that they did brilliantly considering the enormous variation in tasks they are asked to perform.
Eventually decided to change them coz it was Christmas and I was greedy.
Couldn't afford Nitrons so bought ProTechs under advice from Julian Lane, the God of Cerberas. He supplied them, already setup and all I had to do was put 'em on.

Mine are only adjustable for compression but I have heard that ProTech do sets that adjust for compression and rebound now. Jools is the man to ask.

Mine are 13-way adjustable and I have found that 8 stops in is a good balance for a not-too-hard ride on city roads combined with super smooth high-speed cornering.

Thoroughly recommended. thumbup

I'm very happy with the Protechs supplied by Jools. They replaced some slightly leaky Avos, but TBH I couldn't tell the difference once I'd turned them up to ten or so. However I rarely do more than 20 mins on the track, 30 mins max, so they don't get a chance to overheat.
