Please don`t shoot me down in flames and I am not trying to start a war.

How does the speed six compare to the 4.2, 4.5 with regard to performance and reliability as I have seen an speed six that I am very interested in. I have a chimaera 500 at the moment and would also like to know how it would perform in comparison too.
Many thanks, Gary

In standard spec there is not a lot of difference provided the speed 6 has a strong engine, however there is a different feel from the speed 6 to the AJP, I have both and like the speed 6.

Totally different engines in character. The Speed Six is smoother and easier to use daily (not BMW smooth by any stretch of the imagination, but like silk in comparison to an AJP), power wise there is nothing in it. In actual fact, my old Tuscan, once the engine was rebuilt to S spec, was comfortably quicker in a straight line than both my 4.2 and 4.5 Cerberas.

The AJP just has such a unique character that it can't be ignored. Also note that my 4.2 Cerbera was sold at 53500 miles and the engine was sweet as a nut, as is the current 4.5 (touchwood). The Tuscan needed rebuilding at 32000 miles with excessively worn valve guides...

My Speed6 Cerbera feels a lot quicker than my Griff 500 but that could be because the power arrives in such a different way. (although since the Cerbera threw me into a field the other day I would suggest it has more than enough power)

The SP6 and the 4.2 would have about the same power but delivered differently with the V8 4.2 having a bit more torque lower down the revs and the Speed Six producing most of its power above 3500 rpm . The Speed Six is a smooth engine if it's set up correctly and is plenty fast enough. I would advise getting one that has had a rebuild by the good engine builders and if it has you won't need to worry about it. I have had a Tuscan for 3 years and my SP6 Cerb for 4 years I really like the smoothness of the SP6 and it has more than enough power for what I use the car for.

I have a AJP Cerb 4.2, i just sold my red rose Tuscan. The Tuscan was a total animal of a car that just loves to rev and rev. The AJP is something in between a 6 and a RV8 in terms of power delivery (Used to have a chim as well) I love the AJP personally my favorite out of the 3 as it is very intoxicating and i find mine very good around town the bet of the 3 cars and fairly good in a cruise but not as good as the 6 as it is smoother on the move.

I went to a speed 6 cerb from a chim 450. The difference could not be more stark. The performance of the speed 6 is way beyond the rover V8 and delivered very differently. I used to quite enjoy being able to burble about in the chim with the opportunity to plant my foot in 5th from about 50mph and it would pull happily. The cerb wants - demands - to be revved, a relaxing drive it isn't. The engine has very little low down grunt but starts wailing like a banshee around 4000rpm and the power come in with a bang, acceleration through the gears is astounding - a real case of hang on for dear life. And it is VERY unforgiving if you mess it up, especially in the wet. At low revs (around or below 2k rpm) it is hesitant and snatchy - may just be mine but I've heard others say the same.

It's an exciting drive but make sure its what you want before you change. I am potentially considering selling mine - I've scratched the itch so on to sunmat else p'raps.

Hi all
I've a 4.5 jp and love it I will be the first to admit it's been a very long time since I've driven it
Round town I find it very twitchy and snatchy
How ever between 65-140 mph there is nothing that will keep up and I mean nothing

I have a 4.5 currently off the road while she is made to be 4.7 Cerb and she is a demon, yes she is not happy around town but that is just part of owning a Cerb, she has one ambition and that it to accelerate to the horizon, head butt it and accelerate all the way back again. She is not happy when she cannot do this.

A quick and not overly expensive upgrade to the suspension see's her hustling 997 GT3's out of the way on a track day whilst then providing a comfortable ride crusing back from Spa or where ever she has been to stretch her legs properly.

I would not be with out mine, I am in the fortunate position that I could afford a GT3 or Aston but my love for the Cerb is such that I just don't want one, I would have a F1GTR and an F40 if I could afford one but I would keep the Cerb as my main fun car.

If it is not urban friendly then you need to get it remapped by Joolz. Make sure it is working well first (cooling system and exhaust manifolds in particular). He will transform your car, and probably make it much quicker as well. My engine is a complete dog's breakfast (check my rebuild thread if you are in any doubt), but Joolz still got 410 out of it.
