I saw a thread somewhere about removing its rear lip from the bumper, i cant find it, did anyone actually do it?
I cant decide if it would look right or not, it would look alot smoother and cleaner, but right?

Brummie,

Towards the bottom of page 4 of this thread:

Personally, I think the lip does a lot to hold the visual shape of the rear end. I can understand the theory of removing it to clean the arse end up, but IMHO - as the pics of the black car show - in reality it doesn't really work.

Olly

Olly , I have wondered if the Lip adds strength to the body ?

It's sectional form will absolutely add an amount of additional strength to the moulding, however I suspect it's main porpose was an asthetic one. Look at the black car and you will notice that without the lip the rear bumper is very flat in plan view, whereas the lip follows the boot lid overhang very nicely.

It's one of those details that you probably never think about, but the designers would have tried it with and without, and probably many versions in between. I know that's how I approach surface form at least.

Having a rear quarter on the floor here, no chance...
I cannot believe how little there is to it, i cut the rear end off in a flash!
I could have done it in Tescos car park, then you would have had no where to put your shopping.. hehe

I bought that black Cerb.

I wasn't sure about the sag lights at first, I'm a bit of a purest but after sitting in the sunshine deliberating its purchase, I decided it actually looks quite nice (would've looked better if they were more right angled).

The (missing) lip looks better in real life than those hhc pics, eventually I'll get some pictures worthy of the car.

Btw, I hate the wheels - anyone got a set of spiders for sale?

Ok another thought was that it was just as the mould was made but no biggy just a thought.

Yes Byff I saw your car on the thread looks OK, not sure about the lights but wouldn't have stopped the purchase for me.
Forget the Spiders ...crap, may look OK but I prefer the Rl7's ,I ditched my spiders & you would not believe the weight difference on the steering.

Nice car you have there.

There is a blue Chim that I saw at Dunsfold a few years back that had it done. I thought it looked good but alas never took any pics.
The pics of the Black Cerb in my thread are a bit dark and small to see it properly. I can see what people say that without it it looks like something is missing but then that's probably because they are used to seeing it there.
Personally I think having it adds extra sharp lines to what is a very smooth shape. But I still am not convinced / gutsy enough to have mine chopped off. (ooh err!! lol) And mine is going in to Plasticman shortly for some work followed by a full respray. So if anyone can come up with more pics of a Cerb or that Chim I'd love to see them.

the Charisma Cerb had that bit chopped off but they altered too much else to get a good idea of how it would look.
