Hello all.

Has anyone had any steel coolant pipes made up by a firm for less than ACT are charging? £330 seems rather expensive for the kit but mine desperately need changing.

Cheers.

I looked a making some myself, started making two sets, but haven't gotten round to finishing them.

The problems i encountered was i couldn't get 35mm pipe bent using the exhaust place i went to as they only had dies for 37mm, I made a tool for going the ends of the pipes.

They all need finishing at some point, but my TIG welding skill has depleted a lot since i don't weld as often as i used to.

But yes they are expensive for what they are, but alot of skill goes into the tig welding of them which is where all the cost goes.

Nope but what I can tell you is I fitted the ACT kit 6 years ago and it still looks like new.

Act arent cheap, but the products are top quality.
once in a lifetime investment, so probably worth the expense

Thanks guys. Perhaps I should bite the bullet then and just get them changed with the ACT kit.

Just to sow the seeds of doubt I think you should be selective. The pipes tend to look much worse than they actually are so a grit blast and powder coat will be a much cheaper option. The front manifold set seem good value from ACT (£149+VAT),I replaced mine with these 3 years ago and I am very pleased with them. But the two pipes down the passenger wing (£179+vat) seem much less a good deal so I have just taken mine off and am going to get them blasted and coated for less than the VAT on the stainless ones. I'll do the same for the two water rails which do look very nice in stainless, but £450+VAT is a lot for engine bling.

I looked at the heater matrix pipes, and they are not complex to make, but couldn't get the bends as tight using a normal pipe bender.
