wipers-intermittent problem

When I press the intermittent/washer button on the steering wheel, the wipers work, but soon as I take my finger off, it stops. Also, the same thing happens when pressing the wiper button next to it, but ONLY on intermittent part of the cycle. The other three functions (normal, fast and stop) all work ok.
Is it the so called 'park' stop, or is it anything else.
Any ideas.

You’re right it’s the park switch.
The intermittent cycle, and flick wipe, sends a signal to the motor to start a sweep this sweep continues until the park switch is activated again. If you are in intermittent then, at a set time, the motor gets another signal to do another sweep and so it continues. On the normal function the motor is receiving a constant signal, be it at speed I or II, then when the button is pressed to stop the cycle the signal is removed, the wipers return to the park position and the switch operates. (Does this make sense?)
So with yours it sounds like the park switch is stuck, in the OFF position, causing the wipers to stop at the position that the signal is removed. I am sure it’s just a question of taking it apart cleaning it and putting it back together. If the park switch is ‘najered’ then you can get one from www.minispares.com, as they are the same as the late Rover Mini Coopers.

If your going to take the item out and change the switch yourself just try cleaning the contacts inside the switch first. Mine were doing as yours and it was a slightly burnt contact causing high resistance. Bit of a rub with scotchbrite and all is good,
To get the switch off the motor assembly lift the plug end away from the housing and then slide it down. You will need to break the switch open but i put mine back together with some resin. This also stops any moisture getting back in which i found was the initial fault.
Took me about an hour including letting the resin harden.
