Hello and err....little help please
Discussion
Hello All, Had my Cerbie 2 weeks and am just blown away. It's even better than I had anticipated. Have scared people when starting the beast, have turned more heads that I can remember when "a poppin and a bangin" on the overrun and my wife LOVES IT. Followed the threads here over the last few months and it seems the depth of knowledge is staggering and postings more humourous that most online forums, which is refreshing as cars are supposed to be FUN. I have a few minor problems to solve and wondered if I could consult the manual, sorry, Cerbera forum :-)
1) When I bought her the rev counter was not working. After a chat with my local indie, they said it would sit there for 2 weeks, while they ordered it from Speedy Cables and I might as well do it myself as it was a "relatively straightforward" job. I have searched through the postings and the only discussions have been about the speedo cable replacement. I can't locate a similar article relating to the rev counter cable. Is it a similar location to the speedo cable and is it "relatively straightforward"?
2) All of the steering wheel buttons stopped working .(ah-ha! I thought, after searching the forums; ribbon cable.) so I removed the steering wheel, checked all the connections both ends and still nothing. Is it worth spraying electrical contact cleaner on the ribbon connections? Where's the best place to get a replacement ribbon cable? Thanks in advance for any help. Robin

The rev counter does not have a cable, not as in the speedo. I think it is driven off of the Engine ECU. It is one of the symptoms of the Big fuse going so I would check that out aswell.
The ribbon cable often looks ok but has broken inside. Any TVR dealer should be able to get one, they usually keep them in stock. I got one from Castle TVR at a cost of £38.
They are easy to replace just need to take the steering wheel off. Do the buttons work when you rotate the wheel?
Did you get it from a dealer?

one expensive bit of low tech ribbon cable. The manufacturer of the cable will sell it to you for £22. But I would suggest rewiring with better cable to be a more perminent solution.Wow, fast replies all round.
Thanks for the tips, seems a bit of "investigation" is needed for the rev counter
. I'll replace the big fuse asap (saw a thread about it, so I'll follow that) and get a ribbon cable on order tomorrow and fit at the w/e. When I do track down the rev counter issue, I'll post my findings.
Thanks again
