Picked up the new Cerb from Dream Machines on Sat - check her out on my profile (heaven!). Managed to get home and cruise about for a bit (scary fast) until steam started coming out of the bonnet around the water filler cap area and temp soared to well over 110!!! Then noticed coolant flowing out of bottom of engine.
Warranty co. got RAC to ship her back to Sussex (Castle said couldn't even look at the car for 2 weeks) and turns out the wire to the fans was faulty so they didn't cut in. According to the dream machines engineer the overheating caused pressure to rise and subsequent steam and coolant loss. Is it just me or is it a bit strange for there to be this much loss of coolant if there was actual leak??

I would ask them to replace the seal on the expansion tank cap, if thats where it leaked from. My car overheated recently, 110 and it still didn't lose any coolant. Also the cars temp gauge (dashboard capillary gauge) tends to overead unless it has been rerouted away from the coolant pipes under the airbox. You can see the capillary tube as it has a spring like wire round it.
Are they sure it was the wire to the fans or was it the temperature sensor for the ECU (11 quid part), quite a high failure part according to some dealers.

Not doubting that D/M were right, i'm just quite suprised that several pints of water can be lost in what should still be a closed system. Just hoping I'm not gonna get the car back only for further probs to develop (not that prev TVR owning has made me a cynic!)
Wanted castle to sort it cos they're 15 mins away and d/m are 2 hours away

It could have also been an air lock in the system.
Exactly what I was going to say, had exactly the same symptoms on a V12 Jag a couple of weeks ago, kept topping it up, kept overheating etc.
Thought there was a leak but in the end released both caps, and whoosh, lots of air and she took on loads of water.
Turns out the Jag Agent had replaced top Rad hose, and it was airlocked - have you tried undoing both caps with a hose running into one end?
Also maybe ask DM is they have had the rad or hoses off for any reason, could point to it!
