400bhp on noble rollers might be on.

i am the happy owner of that 391 bhp cerb, and i have to say i'm very impressed with Julian and the work he has done, hats of to you! as for the ecu it has been updated to the Emerald system. Thanks also to Julian for showing me the mapping procedure on the lap top, great result all round. all i can say is get you Cerb booked in the guys a Wizard with them..

Hey Joo,
Reckon you'd better book me in for this mod asap. 391bhp on a custom Emerald re-map looks to be a bargain compared to cost of an RR. Assume you picked up torque everywhere as well.
I can let you have the Cerb for a couple of weeks during the winter so plenty of time to try out those other little mods we discussed to hopefully crack the 400 barrier.

Cerbera remapping gains!!
Joospeed has recently remapped a standard Cerbera 4.5 on the rolling road at Emerald ECUs.
Dave Walker of Emerald was in the hot seat for the fuel and ignition tweaking.
Initially the Cerbera was run on the MBE ECU as fitted to standard Cerberas, it showed low end overfuelling and then a sudden underfuelling, something was very wrong with this car even though at 280lbs of torque it's up with Rover 5 litre engines for midrange punch. Dave was confident he could make massive gains with his neat M3D ECU.
And gain it did .. we ended up with an 89bhp gain on outright peak power comparisons, with a power gain throught the whole of the rev range, the car went on to make over 130bhp extra at 6500rpm, and all mapped on 95octane fuel! Optimax wouuld liberate even further increases.
Now obviously this is an extreme case, but it goes to show that many cars out there which feel ok in performance terms may possibly be running with fuelling and ignition problems that can only be seen on a rolling road. Remapping cures all these faults and releases the previously untapped potential of your car.
Prices are 750.00 plus vat for an ECU with a generic map installed, or 950.00 plus vat for an Emerald ECU and a bespoke mapping session on your own car.
The great thing about the Emerald route over other MBE-remapping routes is that you as the customer get a copy of the mapping software so that if you make any upgrades to the car in the future you can have it remapped locally for little money, so if you're planning on a series of upgrades over a few months or even years it makes much more sense to go Emerald, especially as remapping the std MBE unit costs as much as buying the Emerald system outright!
Yup, I was gutted I couldn't break 400bhp on the noble rollers with this car .. but to put it into perspective, the very first red rose cerbera i had on nobles rollers made 398bhp .. we're only 7bhp shy of that car and this cerbie is std 4.5
what it does show though is that even on a very good baseline figure you can get about 40odd bhp gain .. with rover v8 tuning running at 100 pounds per bhp at less than this power level, that's got to be good value for money at around 25 pounds per bhp.
the other thing that's showing up tho is that there are lots of cars out there with runing faults that aren't coming to light until they're on the dyno .. the cars have reasonable power so don't feel lacking in performance, but massive gains are made .. possibly a combination of very bad factory mapping anyway, but also possible ecu faults .. for these people it really is a *have cake and eat it* upgrade

I notice most people are talking about power figures for remapped 4.5s, but has anyone got good results on a 4.2???? Just a thought as some good 4.2s pack around 350bhp standard too yes?
Not done a 4.2 yet, but how about this .. a money-back guarantee for you if you make your car the first? .. if we don't get +30bhp or more from your car you owe us nothing .. your car just goes back to standard and all it's cost you is the fuel used (engine blow ups notwithstanding of course!!) lol ..
sound fair?

And how above moving on to "modern" S6 engines, Joolz?

would love to james .. you offering?

Joolz, care to have a word with dad about this next time we come up??

Ben this'd work great on your car .. we can eventually get that tickover airflow problem worked around .. we need more idle airflow anyway so we can kill two birds with one stone .. sort the idle and get you more power .. your dad might be calling in at some point to have the spacers taken out of his steering rack, so will chat to him then .. uni going ok? hope you're enjoying stooooooodent life

I'd hardly call an AJP8 engined Tasmin racer a *little mod* lmao ..you crack me up you do
Apparently we can only run an engine block that was used / derivative in the car originally........which rules the AJP8 out unless we go for Q. Still it'll only takes about half an hour to swap the engines over........or we could just go for PLAN B!

Julian...can you mail me and let me know what dates you have set aside for your next nobles day...want to get mine booked in and if the day(s) suit I'll be there!
Hi .. I've got a bit of a rush now lol .. I'll order another ten units in and tell you when they're here, then we can work a date to suit ..
thankx, joo

But since when did the tasmin ever run the 205 Cosworth 2 litre block? the 2 litre in the Tasmin was the 200 block hence all the turbo tasmins must have been illegal this season? I still think planB of using the Chevy 305 cu inch from the white elephant is a go-er though ..
600bhp in Production Sports Cars sounds great and just use restrictors for playing in the little classes. It was a wedge car after all so if they weer using illegal engines last season they can't possibly complain .. can they?joospeed said:

If I get the pleb that ran into the car at the weekend to cough up for sorting out all the scuffs, scratches, etc. on the bodywork, I might have a bit to play with on tuning, so we'll see...
Will probably pop up at some point, anyway, as there's still that front spoiler for you to take measurements off (since it came flying off at 140). Now got the rear one you can take measurements off as well, too, if you fancy...

Uni is going great, just slowly getting buried under work and have had a few problems outside uni that have made things a little depressing lately.
I know he might be coming in for the spacers thing, its funny watching him do 18point turns and such... amazed he hasnt given in at times and just put the clutch down, dial in a few revs and crunch, new clutch/tyres time!
Dad should be up for more power though, he rang me up earlier to tell me its firing on all cylinders now (new ht lead fitted) and he sounded alot happier. More power should make him happier still, though I dont think he wants to stomach any more big bills!! The MOT was a bit scary
It would be good if our car responded well to the new map, even on relatively average power it shifts better than it should, with close to RR power, well, it would probably need a few adjustments... Still trying to convince him to play about with the suspension a little - and disconnect the rear anti roll bars. (not sure if thats right, but in theory that should mean better handling? Im a little sleepy so im probably wrong?!)
All the best,
Ben CA
