I think this is the correct oil and iirc 1.6L - or just add the right amount until it starts to flow back out.

thanks Tim, is that what you have on yours? i am worried about using anything else other than the recomended one, as i have been told by a specialist that it will kill the diff

Lodexol is the correct oil for the plate diff. I don't know if it is right for the hydratrak but I doubt it.

The manual says. Mobil SHC 80W 140 ID. It also says any other type if oil will wreck the hydrtrak unit itself.

Type not brand. It's a pity the manual doesn't say how much mobile paid tvr for for printing tvr only recommends mobile lubricants. I suppose we all still use mobile 0w40 engine oil too. The only recommended engine oil for an ajp.

Looking over past threads I think a lot/most people are running the morris oil now in the diff if they know it or not (some comments that well know specialists use this now).

I'm sure the morris oil is fine. In fact I bet my diff on it!

biggrin yep. Diff oil is not nice. It took a couple of weeks for the smell to leave my garage after leaving the diff draining in there.

yes the manual suggests all fluids should be mobil, had my gearbox oil changed to carlube equivalent spec and its ok, but for the diff i was told by a very reputable specialist that the mobil one has some sort of unique additive, so i should use only that, now i dont mind paying for a piece of mind but it seems mobil has discontinued shc 80w 140 and replaced with HDN 80 140. have others used this alternative with good results?

In the manual for later cars it recommends carlube.

I used morris in my diff. Engine was triple R but is now castrol.

Hi, is Carlube for the gearbox? And do you use morris on the hydratrak?

Best bet is to give John at Readman Racing a call - he has rebuilt more TVR diffs than you or I have had hot dinners.

John at Readman Racing has just rebuilt my diff this week and told me to only use Morris XFS 80w-140 lodexol.

I've used Millers in my hydratrak diffs in both my race cars with no problems in 4 years of racing them hard. Food for thought as they say

Yep, I've used the same for years.

The important bit is to make sure it's 80w140 grade. IIRC the difference between manufactures is whether "friction modifier" is added. Both Millers and Morris have this.

This can have an effect on how the plate/cone diff performs. Over on the Monaro forum they talk about adding "friction modifier" if the diff locks up too quickly. Never tried it myself but would be interesting. I think it's more for stopping the car "hopping" when turning out of a junction rather than a performance improvement though.

I thought the hydratrak unit was self contained with its own oil and not serviceable. When you change the diff oil you're changing the oil that lubricates the gears and bearings only?

The stuff stinks because of the high Sulphur content, it's good for shock loading on gears but horrible on your hands hurl
