Mine got stuck on 39,999 last month, took it out to send it off to "Speedy Cables", but thankfully before sending it off I gave it a good whack on the palm of my hand and lo' it then read 40,000, popped it back in and all fine and dandy now :-) £100 and a month of no driving saved. Happy happy happy.

Odometer decided to stick, tried all the tricks on pistonheads but none worked, difference was that it had stuck on some random milege not the normal ..999 time time. Decided to take speedo apart, easy to get out, two wing nuts to take the inst pod off and two more to remove the speedo.
To take mechanism apart I CAREFULLY prized the ally surround off, you can do it carefully enough so that when you put it back together you'll never notice it.
Mechanism is held in by the 3 nuts on the back of the speedo. When its apart you can see the stepper motor which drives the numbers round. This should spin freely with the aid of some long nose pliers. Mine didn't in fact it was stuck solid.
The ID plate on the stepper motor gave the name and phone number of the manufacture. When called they were very unhelpful and said there was nothing they could do!!!
Called the manufacture of the whole speedo who said I could send it back and they would fix it for £80!!! but they wouldn't sell me any parts.
Stepper motors are cheap as chips so thought I had nothing to lose by taking that apart too. After prising back the clips out popped the centre shaft with the magnet on it, well actually only two thirds came out as the magnet had split in three causing the jamming.
Fettled the magnet with a needle file and stuck it back together with superglue. Put the stepper motor back together, now free as a bird. Re bent the ally surround, very easy to bend, put back in the car and bobs your uncle...a working speedo.
I've done nearly a 700 miles now over about a month and its been fine.
