Insurance costs?
Discussion
Hello everyone,
Been reading the posts on here a while just to test the waters as it were.
Can anyone let me know what they paid for insurance, "standard 4.2" etc.
I've been messing about with online quotes for the time being just to get an idea, can insure a Cerbera for less than I paid for the first year of owning a VW Corrado VR6 (£1200) a few years back so seems reasonable.
and what is police attention like? The VR6 was a nuisance and ended up costing me the car and two months without a licence, long story etc.

Insurance varies immensely, personally I pay £650 fully comp on a standard 4.2, garaged, 9 years NCB, 26 years old. That's with Tesco, the cheapest quote I got elsewhere was twice that. That said I asked them about my mini and they were nowhere near!!!!!
As for police attention, it's not a "chavcar" so I don't feel you get undue amounts of negative, then again I got stopped in a Mondeo at 110 and got let off, then at 105 in the Cerb and went to court. Probably just the coppers dicression but you never know. Of course stick to 70 and you'll be sweet!!!
Good luck.

I pay £1000.00 fully comp 5 years no claims and its parked on the road. I think it is very reasonable for the type of car. I have been stopped by the police once, I brought the cerb in June, but that was so one of them could have a closer look as he was thinking of buying a one. Now when they see me driving around they allways wave.

£970 for me. Park on drive 3 yrs NCB includes wife on policy and she is only 25.
As for police attention, my wife was pulled over in Brentwood one Saturday (gone midnight) by two police cars (two men in each).
They were going the other way and heard the cerb coming, thought by the noise that she was speeding (well if she was it was only by 5mph) and U-turned to follow. 1/2 mile down towards Shenfield and the mobile disco started.
After 10 mins of looking inside and out they let us on our way without asking for any documents. Typical!

I Asked my Ride Drive instructor on Monday about police attention, his opinion was that a Cerbera would only attraction attention if driven badly, as owners of this sort of care are mature enough and experienced enough generally to drive well, maintain them well (to the point of being very particular) and very infrequently are they found uninsured.
He said while officially and in their training they are told not to stereotype, it is the young backward cap Nova types that attract their attention and more often than not for good reason due to not in insurance tax etc.

Thanks for the replies.
Read through some old posts so the quotes I've had seem about right so hopefully will be able to shop around properly and get something under £800.00
I asked about the police because the two Corrado's I owned over 4 years I always felt they made a point of looking at you no matter where/when or whether you were under the limit or not.
I'm no lunatic on the road by no means and I'm definately edging towards a more mature owner well only a bit (35).
But I do a lot of M1 miles and ended up with three offences over the 4 years, 99.7mph, 101mph, 110mph, 6 points, 2 week ban and a two month ban respectively, traded the VR6 in before the last appearance and claimed it was too fast for it's own good.
I've been extremely careful for a few years now (less stupid I suppose and having a house to rebuild...) and am back to having a clean licence just about.
I spoke to a guy with a Tuscan a while ago and he said they knew that a TVR as a rule wasn't your average boy/girl racer car so tended not to "harass" them too much?
Just worried about having a police magnet everytime I left the garage...
