speedo lighting
Discussion
Having replaced the MIL light bulb behind the dash, I have no found that my lighting to the Speedo has failed.
Has anyone had success in taking the speedo apart to fix things, or is it a very specialist job?
Also, I suspect in my "repairs", I may have damaged the water temperature guage as it is no longer reading properly. Is this the one that is a swine to replace, or is that the oil pressure guage?
Thanks all...

The speedo and rev counter lighting is just a push fit into the back of the instrument. You do not have to dismantle the speedo to get to it - the bulb holders just pull out. If it has failed, it is more likely to be a problem somewhere in the wiring harness behind the console, the instrument lights are not powered from the PCB.
If you have damaged the capillary to the water temp gauge you will need to send it to Speedy Cables to get it repaired.

There is a massive thread started by Deanratpac ages ago that covers all of the details, including links to suppliers and bulb styles etc.
I should have bookmarked it but...
As to mine, the speedo lighting IS driven from a pcb inside the dial, so I've really managed to do some damage.

That sounds non standard. The bulbs for the speedo should push in to the back of the housing, the feed to them coming from a separate wiring harness. The bulb and holder will just pull out of the back of the speedo. There is a massive thread started by Deanratpac ages ago that covers all of the details, including links to suppliers and bulb styles etc.

The bulb holder is the cylindrical protuberance on the back of the speedo at the top.

This thread might make it clearer.#http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=6&t=236517&mid=356835&i=20&nmt=Dash+Bulbs+-&mid=356835

You never know, I might actually get on and do that this year

Hey Tanguero, my speedo is nothing like yours!
In fact, I note that you have an analogue odometer in yours - mine is a digital one at the bottom of the dial. I have to assume that this is a later model change? I'm sure mine isn't the only one...
Also, thanks for the thread link - that's the one that Paul needs!!

That would explain it!! I should know by now not to assume that there is a single type of anything on these cars.
