Hi There,

I have ordered a new dipstick because mine snapped!

Managed to fix mine temporarily but TMS has just sent me this as a replacement and it looks nothing like my old one

Have TVR modified the dipstick or is this for a different car?

I have looped it round as it is bendy, my old one is an awkward old thing so I'm hoping this is the new one!

My '99 4.5 dipstick looks the same as the pic...does your original twist the final bit, to 'lock' it into place?...and have you put the old and new one together to compare the lengh and marks?

edditted cos i read the post below....mines at the front drivers side of the engine...

Is the stick at the front or the back? It looks nothing like 'Fluffies' dip stick. 97 4.2

I believe the early ones (loop on the top) are no longer available. See www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=84608&f=6&h=0

Bloody hell! What am I supposed to do if you can't get the old ones anymore? Just keep fixing it?

How crap is that?

Haven't checked them together yet but I guess I can safely assume this ones for the 4.5 (at front of car).

Or pay £100 for the "oil level indicator conversion"

I think this has a relationship to my thead abount the old type sump.

I would imagine that stick is off the later sump (98 onwards I think)

If you get desperate, I've just bought an old type sump (sump plug on bottom, not side) from douglas valley, with a bit of luck, they may still have the stick for it.

yup

For what it's worth, we managed to weld it together in the end and it's still going strong.

The reason the dipstick was changed was because the old 4.2 position at the back of the engine just isn't accurate. After a lot of tinkering with oil levels, I now overfill the max line by 500ml on mine, as that is where the engine runs the sweetest. Topcats overfill by 2 litres in their 4.5 racers when on the track, not quite the same thing, but a little overfilling doesn't hurt. As long as you aren't burning oil and the engine sounds smooth.

There are 3 dipsticks as far as I know, the early 4.2 at the back of the engine (no longer available) later 4.2 at the front and the 4.5 one.
