Spent most the day at the workshop... the job is coming along superbly... the rear end chassis has been strengthend - and the HUGE diff has been mounted in with custom bracketry and bolting...

Not going intercooler - going charge cooler with a 10litre tank... nice! (loosing the boot sadly!)

Calculated (these have all the factors included in the equation!!!):

0-60 in 2.5
0-100 in 4 (flat!)

wheelspins in every gear without slicks (feck!!!! will have to watch the right foot)

1/4 mile in low 8's.

850lb/ft flat torque through the range

Complete aluminium ground effects under chassis panelling... with vents for low pressure zone...

Some - extremely clever tricks to get the traction (cant disclose due to agreement with the engineers)

The next few weeks will be interesting....

good day at the w,shop then,i bet u had to leave side ways to get your grin out of the door &keep 1 eye on the progres.sounds like shes mooving qwikly allredy.
wen you say charge cooling not inter i asume u meen the cooler(air liquid i think by the 10l tank in the boot)is cooling the air b4 the supa carger and not between it&the manifolds,,
the figures look beter than those from a fhm calinder (did ya notice i made the p.h. one?)
is the ground efect to aid traction or for drag resistance, protection, strength, wood give off pritty sparks if it was tietanium
look 4 ward 2 next few weeks with intrest.
is blue realy the best color 4 it,or r u gonna paint it?

Phew, you must have been on the piss with that lingo! hehe

The charge cooler is between the blower output and the intake manifolds.

The intake manifolds have specially designed internals to speed the air up (again, another trade secret)...

The ground-effects will suck the car down, but I will be able to manually adjust things for drag-strip and for the road.

Also means, I wont have to ruin her looks and drop a huge spoiler! Although a spoiler would be better for the roads - but then I wont be driving at those speeds on the roads, right?

Its actually quite interesting, that F1 cars used to use similar ground-effects principles as what the engineers are implementing on the car - but F1 had it banned - but apparently in Indy car racing, they still use ground-effects to the full... Soon there'll be soooo many rules in F1, that even the F1 drivers will walk out and move into Nintendo's F-Zero...

Ash,

With most cars being shaped like a banana and generating lift I take it you are having skirts fitted (or similar) as that's about the only way I know of to stop air travelling under the car at a lesser speed then over the top. It will need to be very low to the floor Make sure there aren't any bolts under the seat in case you hit a bump!

The Quarter mile et's are right on the pace, there was a Rovercraft 4.5 TR7 whith a blown rover which went into the 9's iirc.

Yup, very clever skirts though - not visible unless you look under the car... but instead of rapping the air around, the air is being flowed through in a certain *top secret* way... hope the theory works...

Yup the low 8's is with 80% driver reaction times... I doubt I'd get better than that - probably let a bonified pro drag runner to take her for a few runs... and he might just get the high 7's... but I'll be happy with the low 8's to mid 8's...
I mean I could spend £££ and get the engine moved to the rear... hmmmm.... naaaaaa....

lots of *top secret* in your project.

Does make me chuckle.

Can't wait to see it.

I wish it wasnt - but the engineers have all these clever ideas and even though I'm paying for the work - the intellectual rights are not mine...

Surely the ride height won't be anywhere near low enough to make use of ground effects? The Ferrari F355 has "ground effect" venturis but in reality all they do is smooth out the airflow. When F1 cars (and, indeed, sports cars like the Porsche 956) ran proper ground-effects, they were running a ride height of about 10mm or something.

imagine putting the car ontop of a plunger!

Yes, but the edges of the plunger (skirts) have to be very close to the road surface -- of the order of a few mm. So you need very good suspension (probably active) and a very smooth surface for it to work.

When we all get together next year and get a runway to ourselves - I'm sure I can be tempted into taking as many up and down the runway as possible - just bring a few cans of oil - cos I'll be flush changing oil after every couple of runs... rules are, normal driving - change oil/filter every 1000 miles but any drag runs > change oil and filter after 2 runs in a row. I'll be using 2 different styles of filters, one will be for road use and one will be for strip use - its an oil pressure + micron thing.
