Hello all,

Bought this today to dodge some TVR tax:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Land-rover-Defender-Seri...

I hear that there is some adaptation required to make it fit, however. Does anybody know precisely what is required to make this the right fit? I hear the pushrod length may have something to do with it.

Cheers.

You need to swap the pushrod from your old master cylinder..

The adapter is for the pipe fitting.. It's an MG part iirc.

I fitted a Land Rover master (£19), with adapter for the threads.. Lined up fine tbh, which considering the adapter was a surprise.

(Yes I did swap the rods)

You will need an adaptor for the hydraulic pipe as the threads are a different size. Check the bore is the same diameter too, the Cerb one is. 7, but I know there is. 625 & .750 versions too.

Could have just bought a replacment seal set, far cheaper option as long as the bore is not scored.

Hi, I bought one of these adapters, you should get a hit from the MG Midget Pipe Adapter Adaptor ACB9641 GM105Y.

The first part code only brings up one item on ebay at £17. I paid about £6 at the time off ebay. Try Rimmers etc.

Beware the £11 option. I say this for two reasons, although neither of them through direct experience.

1) I bought my master cylinder from either Famous 4 or Rimmer (can't remember which). They had the £11 option. I actually asked them if the £11 option would be OK, especially given the additional heat it will see in a Cerb. They said that it was up to me, but they would advise going to for the £27 version.

2) A friend of mine runs a land rover specialist, he fitted one of these £11 jobbies to a vehicle and it failed almost immediately. He took it back and asked if they had a lot of trouble with them and was told that they were not brilliant. When he asked why they sell them the response was 'we have to to compete with other internet sellers'

So both anecdotal, but reason enough for me to chuck another £15 quid at it.

Matt

Thanks for the help. I'll see how I get on with the £11 jobbie as it should be arriving in the post today anyway.

The ebay one looks correct. Or you can get from Rimmer for £10.75 here: http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-ACB9641

You've been a great help chaps, thank you. Adapter now ordered. It's time for me to give the parts to a friend now and sit back - feet up with wry smile.

Mine was a bit fiddly to get the pipe to fit (careful bending required) and I was really careful to avoid cross threading as a result.

A friend of mine got a flexy pipe made up to fit for his Chimaera.

Good luck with it. I'd be interested in an update on the £11 bobbie after a suitable period of time as I am blessed with a Land Rover, a Chimaera and a Cerb and the old man has a Spitfire so between us we WILL be dipping back into the market at some point smile

Good luck!
