Hi Guys

Does anyone have a black faced guage (water/oil) sitting around unused that they would be prepared to sell? I'm fine with refurbing it if that is necessary...

Thanks!

What happened to yours? DIY rendered it beyond repair?

Mine's bust courtesy of some clumsy DIY on my part, and I'm just not brave enough to remove it myself!

My indie's premises are not huge, so I am trying not to leave it on his forecourt for three months while (not) Speedy Cables fix it.

If I had another I could sort that and then just do a swap...

Can your indie cap it off at the engine end (maybe put an electric sender plug in there if they are the same thread(?)) allowing you to drive it home?

We talked about that, but wouldn't you need to do something with the oil pressure too?

I did consider doing it myself, but at my size, I just can;t get in to all the spaces I need too! hehe

Assuming your oil pressure is ok (have it tested) you should be fine. In any case you still have the warning light. Most cars only have a warning light. But it would be worth checking that it works smile. It is a pain to get at, which is why I suggested the garage do it. Then you can send the gauge away and get it fitted (APM?) when it comes back. You should be able to drive it in the interim provided you keep an eye out for the warning light .

notice how I resisted the temptation to call it an idiot lightthumbup

I really didn't think it could/should be driven without the guage, but as you say, as long as the relevant bits have been plugged and the warning lights work...

Oh, and idiot light is a perfectly correct term for when I'm behind the wheel! biggrin

Why not upgrade to the SPA dual gauge, save on the repair and not being able to use it, Although not cheap at £200 for it, but i fine it great.

If you are very worried about capping off the oil pressure hose (which is very easy to do under the bonnet next to the clutch fluid cover) why not attach a test gauge (from ebay very cheap) to the oil pressure line and cable tie it into place so you can just about see it from inside the car. Yes it is a bit DIY but it will work just fine until yours is fixed.

I have heard that the SPA senders have a reputation for unreliability, could be the issue with your oil pressure.

I may be wrong but was warned off them.

Thanks for the suggestions, I think I need to be braver and just get on with it!

I took a look at the SPA gauges, and while they seem to be a fine piece of kit, they just wouldn't match anything in the car today. I'm not fussy, but I am trying to keep the obvious bits original...
