Hi guys,
My Cerb has developed a start up problem, and was wondering if anyone could offer me some advice. She starts up every time from cold. but when I do a short run and turn off, on return and going through the start up procedure - everything works but on pushing the start button - nothing! I have noticed that I don't hear the petrol pump kicking in. I wait a few minutes, the longest being around 30 mins and she fires right up again. As I said everything else works fine including the immobilizer. Do I have a serious problem or could it be a small connection issue? Your advice would be much appreciated.
Thank you in advance

it could be the hot start problem, I had this on my Cerb, thought it was the starter motor so changed it still the same, so she went back to Andy at APM and he traced it to hot start problem and put a relay in and now all fine, just a thought as you say it will start up from cold so something breaking down when its hot, you could check to big fuse as well to start with just in case it has a crack in it

Have u checked the connections on your fuel pump? Disconnect, clean and try again. if you can't hear your petrol pump priming then your car won't start as it's not pumping fuel round. maybe u need a new pump. They are quite accessible and easy to replace.

At least two things aren't happening, no fuel pump, no starter, not even a solenoid click - so this presumably means either the button itself is faulty (unlikely since you say it works when cold) or the immobiliser is acting up, also strange that it only happens when hot...

Can you hear any relays operating when you press start?

On mine it was the Starter that got "sticky" with heat sink, sorted this with a new starter and then wrapping the whole thing in heat reflectice material.

Yours sounds slightly different especially if you dont here the fuel pump buzz up ?

Had this on my Cerb, bloody annoying & embaressing. You would pull up in the forecourt fill up then "Click" all eye's smirking as you stood & scratched your head.

I replaced all my earth leads with 35mm Tig welding cable, then fitted this

Don't bother with fitting a heatshield starter jacket to the starter (been there done that) all that does is keep the heat sink in!
Fit the above & all will be well. Good luck.

Thanks guys - food for thought on your comments. I do hear a relay click when pressing the starter albeit without the presence of the fuel pump kicking in. will try cleaning the terminals on the fuel pump first and also check the big fuse before delving deeper in to your suggestions. Need to get it sorted as I really don't want the doubters, smugly looking down their noses at my beautiful, nae = fantastic TVR. Thank you again

The Chimaera hot start mod isn't going to help you if your fuel pump isn't running!

The common factor between fuel pump and starter motor in the Cerb is the immobiliser. Is the MIL light coming on when you first press the start button? If not then suspect the button or its wiring, if it does come on but no fuel pump or starter motor, then suspect the immobiliser or its wiring.

A helper relay for the starter motor will only help if the ignition is live and the fuel pump is running.
