now, I love my Tuscan. I really do. One year on and honestly, the most thrilling car I have owned,............however........ I am sorely tempted by the Titanio Grigio Cerb at Str8Six

http://pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/tvr/c...

I am getting my Tuscan serviced in 2 weeks time at Jason's so one train of thought was to drop off the Tuscan and possibly leave with the Cerbera.

What are your thoughts on this car? I can't stop looking at it.........lick Does anyone know of it and are there others at this price range you feel I should consider? I don't know a huge amount about Cerbs so would be grateful for any advice given. Do I consider the 4.5 upgrade or is originality key?

I would do around 3k miles a year with a few track days too and am thinking that I would look to hold onto this car for a long time.

i do love open top motoring and have had a few convertibles in the past but it is quite far down the list in my considerations tbh.

More important are looks, noise and how it drives. driving

Well, it has to be said.... If you haven't bought it already there must be something in your mind that's holding you back.

People can talk til their hind teeth fall out about the prospective positives and negatives about owning 1) A TVR 2) A Cerbera but it's gonna be down to YOUR gut reaction.

Arrange for a test drive and let your arse make the choice thumbup

(but let us all know how it goes)

Ha. I don't move that quick sadly. Only really looked at it just before I confirmed my service this evening. Had a brief chat with Chas then so was quite keen to get peoples views on this particular car before lining it all up.

But yes, will drive and see what my backside decides !

Have you ever driven a Cerb? I really wanted both but after driving a few of each, decided that the Cerb was the better car (for me). Exciting choice to make!

Hi. Not driven one before. Have been a passenger in two cars last year before opting for the Tuscan but am determined to get a decent drive before I buy this time. TBH I learnt nothing from those 2 earlier outings from a driving POV of course.

I also have a couple of young kids so the 'practicality' is something of a bonus in theory with a Cerb.

Does anyone know this particular car and has it been advertised for a while?

I only saw it last week, don't know anymore than that. I think we are pretty close (im in Beaconsfield), so if you want to drive my 4.2 as a comparison (mine shouldn't be as nice in theory) you are more than welcome.

I feel relatively qualified to offer some advice on this, having experienced an itch similar to yours. I had a Cerbera which I took into my specialist for some work doing (Track v Road, for the record). They had an X-plate, one owner Tuscan that caught my eye. To cut a long story short, I bought it 24 hours later. One extremely exciting year on, I sold it and bought another Cerbera.

The things I miss about the Tuscan compared to the Cerbera:

- Roof off and rear window out (never thought I'd miss this. Never hankered after it when I had the first Cerbera. Having the rear screen out adds another dimension to the exhaust note, hearing the little subtleties you simply can't hear by just having the windows down).
- Noise (subjective, but where an AJP blares, a Speed Six is tuneful).
- Reliability/build quality (ok, the Tuscan's engine needed rebuilding sooner than anticipated, but generally the car suffered fewer niggles, interior fit and finish was still patchy in places but lightyears ahead of the Cerberas).
- Usability (everyday stuff... brighter headlights, easier to drive around town, lighter steering, more reliable electrics, better ventilation system etc).
- Brakes (THE best brakes I have ever used in a motor car, truly superb brake feel).

The things I prefer about the Cerbera:

- Exterior looks (Tuscan attracted more attention and the view over the bonnet was mesmerising, but it was all a bit forced. The Cerbera's beauty is just "there").
- Interior looks (well... it's genius, isn't it?).
- The smell
- The feeling that you are driving something truly special.
- The handling (Tuscan was twitchy, never got to grips with it).

Do I want to go back to a Tuscan? I'd love another, but it would have to be in addition to a Cerbera because it could never replace one. The Cerbera has an appeal that no other TVR seems to be able to replicate, and you will probably experience that for yourself when you test drive one.

On Monday I gave a Tuscan owner a ride in my Cerb at Anglesey, actually we traded rides. What I hadn't realised was that the Tuscan has a relatively large cabin - something my passenger didn't appreciate until he tried to get in and buckle up.

I have to say his TVR Power 4.5 Tuscan was definitely quick and stable (TBH quicker than me with a self imposed 6k rev limit), but I reckon the owner probably paid as much in the last year in running costs as I paid to buy my car.

So my advice would be if you are slick and svelte consider a Cerb, if not stick with your Tuscan.

Have to agree Mr Cerbera. Gotta love the TVR community.

Thanks to everyone for their input.

I have had both, a Tuscan and a Cerbera.

The Tuscan was wonderfull, I only sold it as I needed rear seats for my twin boys, OH and I racked up 11 points on my licence!!. Once my licence lost a few points I was onto a Cerbera, I stayed with the SP6 4.0L as I liked the way it performed in the Tuscan and I could not find a decent V8 Cerb at the time for the money I was spending. Some of the early Cerberas I viewed were very poor quality compared to the Tuscan I had (paint work, interior, engine and general build quality ) and I prefered the SP6 engine, nothing wrong with the AJP V8 before the AJP Police come down on me but I managed to get a good SP6 that was a good few years newer than the V8s I looked at for the same money and in far better condition and specification than some of the others I viewed.

It is good to have a change every now and again but as much as I like my Cerbera and I have owned it 5 years now If I had to spend thousands more to get in a Cerbera I would stay with your Tuscan. £2-£3k more maybe but £4-£7k no.

But the only wat to tell what is right for you is taking the Cerbera for a drivedriving

At the end of the Anglesey track day I also gave a ride to a Tuscan owner who had previously owned a Cerb for a couple of years. On getting in to the Cerb he was effusive, almost embarrassingly so, as if I needed to ensure he experience wasn't a disappointment.

I got the impression that he would be looking to swap his Tuscan for another Cerb in short order. I'll try to get some video online soon so you can hear that I'm not making this up.
