Rattle

Got a rattle which sounds like it's coming from the nearside front.

It's audible at low speed, rhythmic and stops when the brake is depressed.

I've had a quick look at the brakes but can't see anything obvious.

Anyone experience something similar?

Ive got much the same Ted, most noticable when braking, or backing off the throttle. Had put it down to bonnet wobble - the clambs bashing on the plate, but was beginning to think it might be something more serious..... at least we're not alone - lets hope someone has an idea or two....

Sounds to me like the pads rattling in the calipers, especially as it stops when you touch the brakes.


Not sure whether yours is the same problem redleicester, as yours is there when braking.

Like the pad rattle theory. The noise stops when pressing the brake pedal so that would make sense.

A common occurence on multi piston calipers. Check that the springs or spring plates designed to stop this are in order.

Don't forget to check the wheel nuts as well. If it's the calipers does it stop when you touch the brakes gently?

my brakes use to clack,but from the rear,(wich has springs between the pads pushing them back)
it turnd out to be a chiping in the rear drum.
Ive got mintex 1166 front pads in now,and neather set were noisy,the stainless spring sliper plates on the top& botom of each pad are there to stop this i think,a couple of mine had carosion under them that corsed the pads to stick a bit,posibly adding to the over heating of the fluid(not my light foot)and total failure(about 2 laps after the photo on your ace calinder),it is well worth fluid changing if u dont know when it was last changed.(iff the nipples arnt caroded)

After a while you'll stop worrying about rattles, and just put them on the list to get sorted next time you're near your garage ....

Still, can't let the odd rattle spoil our fun eh ?

Ted, surely you are aware that PW did a covert sponsorship deal on the Cerb?

Akin to the Cortina Crusader, Peugeot Roland Garos, et al - The Mothercare Cerbera, each fitted with a rattle.

Trooper is right, it doesn't go away, there's invariably a trip to the garage (though that is often quite enjoyable ....if you're using a good garage) but you you get less surprised !

Had the same problem on mine. Garage fixed it by removing the pads, grinding the leading edge a bit and refitting.

Think it was just that the springs weren't holding it in the correct position really. They only charged me £30 so can't have taken them long to sort it.

I have steadily gone round my Cerb over the last year of ownership slowly tracing all my rattles and stopping each one. The list is really exhaustive, but it can be done.

Probably easier to just go out and buy sport pipes.

You're on: The kit you have to beat is a standard 4.5 silencer on a 4.2, with track-day inserts, and new Carbon covers for the Green Filters c/o Joolz Inc on the intake side. An I've still got to book our shed in with Austec, as I've heard they've got some extra-quiet Bosch injectors...
