Right chap,s thank for all your previous advice on upgrading the stereo in my Cerb. The wonderful chaps at Horizon Motorsport have stripped and rewired the car this week, so I now have to 6.5inch 2-way drivers in the doors, and am still running the stock door tweeters plus upgraded 87mm 2-way speakers in the rear.

I'm amazed how much difference this has made - he 6x9 thankfully now does nothing, and the 2-ways in the doors have added a wonderful sense of space and definition to the sound. However, as Horizon fitted a sports 'zorst last week, once you start the car, all the bottom end ceases to be....

So now on to the driver to go behind me, in the helment hole. It's all wired and ready, so all I have to do is pick and amp and sub. It seems the stock of 8" drivers are coming to an end - obviously the Lax Power brigade are driving the market demanding ever bigger drivers, so 8"s are few and far between.

Any suggestions on nice compact amps and 8" drivers? I'm gravitating at the moment towards the Kicker 8", and a Pioneer GMX362 amp - 2x40 or 1x80watts.

I've got a Genesis Profile 4 in the boot. Excellent quality.

Trouble is I need the boot space.... so I wanted to go down the route of fitting the sub in the helmet hole between the rear seats....

My sub is between the rear seats, and the amp is fastened to the nearside inner wing in the boot. Doesn't take up much room at all. I didn't want to take up the boot space either.

Sorry Kojak, misread your post - thought you literally meant it was all in the boot!

Cunning placement, how much did it cost to do? Do you have any pics you could post/send?

JL Audio do a rather nice 8. In fact even in their W7 range (top of their range).

You could always use a genesis 6x9 sub?

Mines a JL sub, but it wasn't top of the range. Think it was £130 ish, but on offer. Mines 10"

Well the work is well in hand now - picked up a sub and amp this morning and will be having them installed next week.

Went with a JL 8W0-4 sub and Alpine

So that'll be a total of £50 for rear 8.7cm 2-ways, £40 for the front 17cm 2-ways, plus the £200 for the sub system. Add in three hours labour for wiring and trimming, looks like it'll be a rough total of about £500 all in.

I'll let you know how the last little bit goes, and then post a few pics if you want.

I remember which JL i've got. Mines the same model as yours, but the 10" one (10W0)

Yeah, you'd be much better off installing a 10" sub. Since you're going for it you might aswell get the best bass you can.

I suppose the problem with Cerbs is that the petrol tank is between the cabin and the boot, so there is no point in installing a massive bass box in the boot to rattle the car to bits even more quickly.

If it wasn't for the helmet thingy we'd probably be doomed to having just normal door speakers and no bass speaker which would be a bit weedy.

I must say, uprated as it is, my stereo is great in traffic jams, but once I get moving the straight-through sports pipes tend to become rather insistent!
