Finally - more adventurous owners!
Us Cerbera owners need to build the 'british muscle' scene up more!

Some geez came up to me yesterday and set that the new BMW M5 can have a stock Cerbera for breakfast in a straight-line to 180????!!

Is this true????

i know that the bmw made about 350-380 bhp, but because the car weighs 1.5 tons i doubt it..

and i do speak from experence as my best friend owned a 98 bmw m5.. it was quick but not that quick, and fuel economy was worse than the cerb..

I very much doubt it!!

From what I thought there's not many standard cars out there that will beat the cerb in a straight line until you start getting to £300k things like carrera GT's and the likes.

If he means the new 507bhp V10 M5 it might be able to, 0-167mph in half a mile according to one report.

if you regard the figures, then it still won't beat the cerb, performance figures for the bmw 0 to 60 is 4.9 secs, the same as a subaru. this i suspect is down to the weight again, the beemer will be fully loaded and weigh loads..

the cerb is stated to reach 60 in only 3.9 secs, thats a ful second faster than thr bmw.. and thats rearly is noticable...

TVR still rules... and considering it's cost, will do for some time unless somone can be faster ,,,better handling better acceleration, look better, and cost less... then for me the Cerb will always be TOP DOG...

BMW stick that in your pipe.....no matter howmuch you spend on your bevarian pimp mobile, my 26k cerb will embarass you....and thats why i love it so....ppphhhuuurrpp

I have got both a 2000 4.5LW Cerb and a BMW M5 2001. M5 is a much heavier car than the cerb. 2000 model M5 are pushing out a true 400 BHP so not to be sniffed at in a straight line. And despite its extra weight its handling is superb.

They also have another big advantage over the cerb and that is the torque range on that engine is immense. You seem to get the 400BHP from nothing till the top, unlike the cerb.

True BMW certainly has a weight disadvantage. But like so many of the Cerb victories its got be be the right conditions.

Give me a damp road with some serious twists and braking spots, or mid range roll ons, and you will be embarrised by the M5.

Dry road long straight drag run and the all important getting the start right in the cerb and you would be laughing.

Next week, father is comming down (ex lotus hill climb racer), we'll go out in both cars and I'll give you the head to head story.

I've driven an older 400bhp BMW and was very unimpressed with it's straight line performance.

What is very impressive though is it's ride / handling .. mind you weighing so much they'd be hard pushed to get a bad ride, but even so it's ability to soak up the bumps on my favourite suspension test route was outstanding

Joo, it's obviously going to get panned by the torquiest of Astramax diesels off the line but when rolling, the real world power delivery is far from unimpressive.

I'd say the urgency in 5th when proceeding deep into bottom spankage rivals most things, in fact, imho, it's one of the car's greatest strengths.

They also state 420BHP. Unless you measure it, I wouldn't believe it as an "everyday" 0-60. Did I manage the sprint in the claimed 4.2 when I had my Cerb? Yes. Just. Once. And I think I halved the clutch's life in the process.

Get it all right, and (assuming the aerodynamics aren't fantastic on the M5) a Cerb will dust it in a line, I'm sure. Think the chances of "getting it right" are, unfortunately, higher in the M5 thanks to all the gadgets, though.

Update. internet, autocar/roadcar

Cerb M5
0-60 4 4.7
0-100 9.1 12.4

So if you don't muck up your start in the Cerb and at a ton you'll be three seconds ahead. Good for the Cerb.

Trouble is, I guarantee any joe could do the M5 figures. I don't think Ive ever managed a perfect 0-100 in the Cerb and I use it a lot.

I was really referring to what happens above 120+ where (I think?) the actually pretty reasonable aerodynamics encourage massively irresponsible horizontal anvilling.

Of course it depends on road conditions. I think the new M5 is very fast, and is probably much more useable. It is possibly more stable above 150 too .... but on the right day with the right driver my money is still on the Cerb, just....

it's a funny one to compare. i mean the Cerb is niece market hand built sports/supercar. where as the BMW is a mass produced luxury sports/exec.

where credit has to given though, and although i said diffrent earlier, is the fact that the BMW, should even get near the Cerb is something to behold..

one final point to consider.. the BMW stated power figures would be what was stated by the manufacturer, where as the Cerb if it had it's stated power from the start, would i'm sure be a diffrent matter...

my heart is still with the British Beef, but the Bevarian Bruser still gives a good run for it's money considering it's crudentials..

thats the old M5.

new one(with launch control)is 0-100 9.8 and 0-150 21 secs, 30-70 3.6(autocar road test)will also do over 200mph when derestricted.

Yes but thats still 3 seconds slower to 150.. the Cerb is simply the best in a straight line.. remember in one of Clarksons videos when the Cerb thrashed everything in sight including a 911tt...

Cerb is only the fastest in ideal conditions, best BHP, top driver etc. Driven in the wet by a mere mortal a lot of (admittedly expensive and fast) cars will come closer. Not too many will though ...

However if we're talking accelerating to overtake etc not much out there to beat a Cerb (Diablos and above...)
