Anyone got any tips or tricks for removing the water temp guage and capillary? It looks like it is relatively simple, albeit requiring contorting yourself in to the footwell for the bulkhead bit of it!

Thanks

Just do it very carefully. Make sure the path it takes it's nice and clear so bit to snag on anything. You may need to clear the gromit of the sealant so it slides cleanly back into the car.

Remove the dash cowling and should be straight forward.

Are you removing it for repair or some other reason/job?

When I removed one for repair speedy cables told me to just cut it off behind the dial as they fit new anyway even if it is working as part of a dial refurb.

Removal is pretty easy, the hardest part is getting the bulkhead grommets back in afterwards. Here are a couple of posts I made which may help when I had to do this job:

and make sure you don't do this!

Thanks both, much appreciated.

I am doing it for repair, as I managed to fracture the capillary while repairing some other items behind the dash. I'll give Speedy a call, because cutting the damn thing off, may just save me from breaking somwthing else!!

Yes, just unscrew the oil pipe and cut off the water one at the gauge. Much easier as you can leave the broken one in place (and still use the car if you are brave enough) until the repaired gauge is returned. Be warned though. Unless they have new stock of the capillary bulb bit you will have a very long wait as I did.

Thanks, Tim.

I have already resigned myself to a summer without the car frankly, as Speedy's reputation preceeds them!

Tried the breakers Ian? Wondering if you can get one that does the job even if the wrong colour to keep you going until the repair is done?

My experience of any of the breakers who do Cerbera parts is poor, Steve. It doesn't help that the capillary is very weak, and so the chances of finding one that works is low...
