Another oil related question

When checking the oil level.

Unscrew the oil filler cap and remove the dipstick, wipe the dipstick and reinsert - should I screw the cap back in or not to check the level ?

It makes quite a difference in the measured level.

Yes screw it back in, also the dipstick can lie, best to leave it out for as long as you can to get a really accurate reading

Thanks, the level hasn't dropped much at all then.

I usually check 3-4 times just to get a better idea also this removes the residue oil from the tube giving more accurate reading.

Leave running, up to temp until the fans cut in, turn the engine off and then screw the dipstick back in as fast as possible! I used to take the dipstick out and clean it up ready to be reinserted with the engine still running to save ten seconds. Checking oil level on a Speed Six is a right nightmare.
