First time for everything!

I've never been had buying a car before until now.
From max to min oil with loss of pressure in 92 miles.
Thought I'd do my commute in the Cerbera tonight. Unfortunately I've got another 200 to go so good job I bought 4 litres before I left!
The drivers door seal filling up the footwell with an inch of water in an hour outside today seems fairly minor in comparison.

Are you sure you haven't got a leak.
Mine started using more oil than normal and never any leaks under the car only ever a small drip of oil on the rear of the sump. It turned out to be the rear crank seal which only ever lost oil when the car was running.
Also check the oil pressure switch in the v of the engine under the coil packs common place for a leak and they quickly get worse.
For you to use so much oil without a leak I doubt you would see the road in you mirror for smoke.

Used half this time on motorway in 80 miles.
First 30 miles of first stint I ragged the proverbial out of it if I'm honest.
Shocking! I've adjusted the timing and played about with a few things and she is a lot stronger than when I put her on dyno so was hoping to put off blowing money rebuilding for a year.
I'm going to enlarge capacity as much as poss, change crank, force induction. I just don't have time till March unfortunately to even think about it.

You must have deep pockets.
Isn't there an argument for cashing in on the development work already done on AJPs?
i.e. when people have determined both that 4.7 litres is a sweet spot for this engine and worked out how to manufacture the thinner cylinder liners - then had the reliability of the engine proven through racing - then why do you feel compelled to reinvent the wheel?
If you want large capacity and forced induction then the Chevrolet LSx is the obvious choice.
You're not the only engineer on these forums and good engineering does not always mean starting from scratch when most of the answers are already staring you in the face. In my line of work that would be the trait of a fairly poor engineer - one who consumed vast budgets and far too much time getting to the same point everyone else has by an obtuse and convoluted route.

Hi Jamie,
Thanks for your input, I have no intention of doing anything that hasn't been done in terms of capacity you have mistaken what I mean.
I have no intention of wasting money either I can assure you.
I think I am aware of all options available including the supercharger route but it is not one that interests me due to the parasitic nature of operation.
I am loving the Cerbera, it has been my dream car ever since I saw it at the NEC many years ago as a kid.
As for being a poor engineer well I hope not, if I remember I'll let you know who I am prior to Le Mans 2016.
Thanks to posters above I will check crank seal and other possible leak points just to be sure, there is a lack of oil underneath car though so not to hopeful.

No offence intended - and it's not me you need to prove yourself to. Apologies if I am incorrectly interpreting what you write, but it does come across like you're trying to reinvent the wheel.
4.7 works really well and most people say they're "going for a 4.7 rebuild". You say "as large a capacity as possible". Do you see why your posts imply a desire to work everything out again for yourself? Your word choice suggests a need to learn everything the hard way.

Not at all mate
I'm a little frustrated with my own at the moment and I'm very much feeling a reluctance to take anything else apart when supposedly small issues are sometimes so time consuming and vexing.
Your oil consumption does sound chronic though, and it really does sound as though the engine comes apart. I've always promised myself that if mine does need to come apart, it may as well go back together as a 4.7.
I'll buy you a beer the first time we get our Cerberas running well enough to go to the same event!
That said, I did drive mine for 6 hours yesterday which was good - I needed that!

That's not good.
Have you spoken with the person who sold it to you about the various issues you have had with the car?
Really? Its a 20 year old car and it burns some oil - unless it had had a recent rebuild then surely its a potential risk (or maybe its has got worse since you bought it). Your car seems to have lots of work pending - again unless the car came with tons of history to show that these items have been recently attended to then its a risk that they will need doing shortly....Have you spoken with the person who sold it to you about the various issues you have had with the car?
