Speed 6 Lambda...
Discussion
Ever since I bought my car, I've had a slightly lumpy and rich idle. Since getting my ECU interrogation up and running, I've been able to diagnose a suspect lambda readout at idle and light throttle only. One reads at the top end of lean all the time, the other about half-way lean all the time. The exhaust output suggests otherwise with clouds of steam and rich smell, and immediately after resetting the adaptives, it runs really nicely. When driving normally too, everything calms down and the lambda and adaptive gauges are dead on 12 o'clock on the RS-AJP app.
The other thing I noticed is that at idle, the water temp gauge fluctuates around where it should be within about a 5 degree range, and though I'd like to suspect the signal ground, TPS is solid. I've also checked that the engine has a good ground.
In the past week I've read more than I thought possible on the subject of lambda sensors and wow there's a lot of nonsense written on this subject! Based on everything I've observed and read, but without actually having got at the buggers to check, TVR initially used 3-wire titania sensors connected to a common 12V with the heating elements and in series with a biasing resistor of a few hundred ohms in the ECU to ground, across which the reading is actually taken. Can anyone confirm or deny? (later 4-wire sensors still have 12v applied to the sensor I presume?).
Can someone briefly tell me how to get at my sensors' connectors, and for a 99 cerb, are they likely to be 3 or 4 wire?
I also have a receipt from the previous owner having paid RT Racing to replace one of the sensors.
I've also read about suspect alternator or its fuse causing problems, which I will try next.
