Hi guys

First post, and I may receive some hate for this but....*breathes deeply*.... I was wondering about the AJP8 sound. Dont get me wrong it sounds awesome, but something about it just doesn't sound like a V8. The Flat-Plane cam gives even firing and exhaust scavenging so more power etc, and that's fine, but the result is a V8 that can kind of sound like just a bigger 4-cyl, and just a bit too much treble in the exhaust note.

I appreciate you'd get the same from 180 degree headers on a cross-plane like the big 'murican V8s. But Can anything be done with the exhaust to give it a deeper rumble or slightly more lope? I did wonder about a magnaflow glasspack install as I love the sound they give the 'murican V8s that people install them on. This one sounds (not looks, that spoiler is hideous) rather nice https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zDbBS5fBRz8

Too, right! With a full ACT decat sport pipe!

Le Sigh! I was waiting for the inevitable Speed Six crew to rear their heads, haha.

I cant help but echo Jeremy "Big Ape" Clarkson.... More is better!

"M" Smith, that does sound nice at idle. Does make me wonder what happens when the revs get up

Maybe you need to buy one with a LS fitted ?
Don't swear to me like that! Haha.

On another tangent, I saw the ACT Big Bore exhaust kit. Looks like each bank of cylinders is totally separate through to the tailpipe. Call me stupid if I'm wrong, but would you not get more power/torque if you had an 'H' or 'X' Pipe in the middle of the system?

Not with a flatplane crank as the pulses are even from both banks..

True, but they're still 90 degrees apart, so wouldn't an 'X' pipe give a place for the 2 banks to meet and thus increase scavenging power even further?

Just go straight through!

http://youtu.be/cpb_jWntxKs

Or spend a huge amount on a full race side exit exhaust system......

Wrong, the banks are 75 degrees apart so scavenging doesn't work with a x pipe

I put centre section silencers in mine.. Seems to give it a nice bassy note at idle.. You can make out the V8 "thrum"..

My 2p is that the AJP8 is a completely unique engine with equally unique sound, character and power delivery and you're missing the point if you're trying to make it more like a 90deg crossplane cranked V8.

The ACT big bore systems deepen the sound a bit - but it's absolutely never going to give the offbeat thrum of a crossplane - purely because the exhaust gas pulses are not off-beat in each bank.

Either learn to love it, or trade it for a Griffith. smile

Mines a 4.2 ajp, with standard manifolds, act decats and then act big bore system.
It sounds absolutely thunderous and I cant help but drive with a big grin!!
