all dead and now working

Not going to moan about this to much, but the other day popped out to a friends house, went had a coffee and a chat and when I left to start the car, it wouldn't start, completely dead. So I gently rolled the car down the hill and tried again at the bottom. Check the fuses couldn't find any faults so called the RAC.
Whilst waiting in the freezin conditions, I thought I would give it another go and so put keys in, done the imob, and presses the buttom and she fires and since then haven't had a reoccurence. Don't know what the fault is, had to to tell the RAC not to come. little pi--ed because I don't know if it is going to happen again.
Anyone had similar experiences???

This sounds very similar to a starting problem a few of us have had. Does your fuel pump sound like it is ok. If it does then read on.
It seems to be a bad contact, maybe the starter solenoid, but after getting the car checked it gets a clean bill of health.
If it happens again then keep your finger on the starter, might take 2 or 3 minutes, and hopefully, when you least expect it, it will start.
I personally think it's a bad earth but nobody has found the exact problem. Bad earths are really hard to find on fibreglass cars.

I think he means the overide key, there seems to be an opinion on here, that removing that key frequently isn't a good idea.
Mine's still doing that andy, about 50% of the time, I've had a button fitted directly to the starter & that works everytime. So mine is an electical fault somewhere.
Sometimes I can sit there with my finger on the button & messing around with electrical items, seems to make it fire up, the mains beam is a favourite.

Mine does it about once every two months, usually when I'm holding up a queue at the Shell station
I know what you mean about playing with electrical stuff, opening my door helps sometimes.

Just popping over from the RV8 side, many cars have been cured of the "hot start" by having a relay inserted just before the starter solenoid. The original wiring is not up to pulling in a hot solenoid. I know yours have a relay but what if was in the wrong place,ie too far from the solenoid through many metres of "TVR wire" its the same thing, just an idea.
I've had a similar thing on two different cars ....
once in a demonstrator, I knocked the key, it all went dead, then I couldn't get it going. Couple of minutes later, I fiddled with the lighter and it all came back ...
Just recently, in my own car (soon to be sold alas..) I turned the engine off in a traffic jam (dumb or what ?) and it just wouldn't start - I had knocked against the key and cut out the electrics whilst I sat there. Wouldn't start for toffee, then hours later it just came back. I had thought that I'd overheated the starter motor, but it had plenty of time to cool down and still wouldn't start ...
Basically I am firmly in the don't touch the key camp !!!!!!
I think Cerbs do this to us so that we enjoy the car more when it gets going ....

Good call Andy, the opening & closing the door whilst holding my finger on the button seems to be my preferred starting method this week.
I noticed my boot light switch "arcing" the other day whilst submerged in water, I don't know if that's anything to do with it.
I've now found, my door buttons have started to introduce a similar delay, makes me look like a bigger gimp than normal, staring at the car whilst fondling the mirror
