Cerbera engine problems
Discussion
Call Andy at APM automotive.
Edit: water pump doesn't imply full rebuild to me. A full rebuild implies top end - new valve seats, valves, buckets, stem seals, and possibly other things like valve springs and cams depending on the state of the existing items. Not to mention the bottom end stuff like piston rings, liners, bearing shells etc. I would expect a full rebuild for around the 5 or 6k mark obviously depending on the state of the engine. Throw another 2 or 3k at it for a 4.7

Once you split the block to replace the waterpump you have to replace all the worn items you find enroute - don't you? That to me is the definition of a Full Rebuild.Edit: water pump doesn't imply full rebuild to me. However, this all begs the question - WHY?
Presumably there is an overheating issue, but it has somehow managed to destroy both headgaskets and caused no other damage. The overheating is presumably due to a failed waterpump, but once again without any other consequential damage? Why did the waterpump(s) fail, how come the oil pump didn't fail - they are all one the same axillary drive shaft.
There are too many unknowns here.

Hi,
I've been quoted £4,500 to replace both headgaskets, timing chains and waterpump on my 4.2 V8 Cerbera. Does that sound about right? Also does anyone know the cost of a full engine rebuild on a Cerbera?
Cheers,
Malc
OP you don't say who quoted you, but for that work list, its not too dissimilar to the cost of mine done at APM. Its possible the company quoting is also building in other work items that are likely to need addressing at the same time. That way, if those items don't need doing they look like they're awesome by being under budget, and if they do need doing, then they look like they know what they're talking about.I've been quoted £4,500 to replace both headgaskets, timing chains and waterpump on my 4.2 V8 Cerbera. On my recent rebuild, I had the water pump rebuilt/with new impeller (impeller had to be custom made), head skim (which should be done anyway), gaskets, new valves (if they haven't been replaced since new, then they should be), new cams, new cam followers, timing chain, pulleys etc. Labour cost is the big differentiator here not so much the parts.

APM or Powers would be who I'd want to do the job.
If you have the symptoms described I would totally agree with this statement.
I especially liked the way they went through the different option, detailing the pro's, con's and costs of each.
Personally I wouldn't go anywhere near RND.

A 4.7 is a LOT more than £3k on top of that price.
Maybe 5.5k more depending on what else needs sorting ETA Including VAT
I did, I don't want the risk of it breaking, and H section con rods and loads of other stuff as well,
She is turbine smooth and has a 120mph usable band of power in 4th and the world goes into fast forward mode when you get over 3000rpm in any gear.
The 4.7 is a wonderful engine with all the mentalness of the AJP but a much more modern feel.
