I know, I know, the 'what tyres' question has been done to death but.....

I'm looking to replace all 4 tyres, and have decided to push the boat out and get Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2s all round. Problem being they only seem to do 225/35/18 as an Audi fitment which is XL, and I'm guessing not really suited to the lightwheight Cerb?

So, do I get 4x something else all matching, maybe Toyo's??

Or go with 225/40/18 on the front as they seem to be available as 'normal' F1's.

Thoughts?

Forgot to add, currently have Falken 452s which have been pretty good, so maybe I should just go with the 453s?

The problem is, that it's becoming hard to near impossible to get tyres without extra loading specification (XL). A result of cars getting heavier and heavier, it seems.
Downside is, that you get more sidewall stiffness and hence less dampening from the tyre itself. I would think, that you could lower the tyre pressure to some extent to at least counter that a bit (e.g from 26psi to 24psi). On the other hand the tyre should behave better in fast corners with less flexing of the tyre walls, i assume.

ATM I'm looking for tyres too and gave up on getting non-XL types.... but maybe someone has a good lead on sourcing good non-XL types?

I don't like my Falken 452's at all. Dunno if it's just me, but I prefer Toyo's, loads more grip.

The way it goes is people will post up in support of the tyres they have bought.

I have a set of GY Eagle F1s so obviously they are highly recommended.

I've got the Eagles as well.
Very good tire, lots of grip and pretty good in the wet as well.
The car came with Toyo's and it's a massive improvement
but the Toyo were really old and the rubber was hard so not really a fair comparison...

I will most likely go for the Toyo T1sport. The now fitted Goodyears are past their time, but were really good. Don't have a comparison as of now, though. My brother has the Falken Azenis fitted with also good handling/grip. I think the Goodyears are better however.

Guys, I went through this dilema last August - I ended up with a full set of Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymetrics but size up.

Had been originally running 255 / 35 rears with 225 / 35 fronts; last two sets of tyres I went up a size on the fronts to 235 / 40

Read all about the ROAD tyres debate here:

Happy shopping!!

Thanks for all the input guys. Having done a bit more research, the Continental ContiSportContact 5s (what a catchy name!) seem to get very good reviews, and are available in the sizes I want. Any thoughts?

I think you'll find the 225/35/18's are Eagle F1 Asymmetric 1's, you can't get the 2's in that size.
I went for this setup last year, with the 2's on the rear and the AO XL 1's on the front, and can't say I've noticed any issues with the stiffer sidewalls.

Previous tyres were Falken's on Front, Khumo on rear, can't remember the exact models, but they were quite old so obviously noticed increased performance from the new tyres.

Indeed, have discovered that today, annoying as it would be nice to have 2's all round, but probably doesn't matter as you say.

I have this arrangement on my Cerbera also albeit in 17" - F1 Assymetrics on the front and F1 Assymetric 2s on the rear.

If the A2s are available in the front size when it's time to change, I'll change but otherwise I have no plans to replace them with anything else.

I haven't on a Cerbera. I've never really been especially impressed by them on other cars. They're not bad, but there has always been something better.

Are Michelin Pilot Super Sports available in your size? They really are something special smile

You can get those for the front, but not rear (255/35/18).

I value anyones input on this matter, but the Contis seem to get the most consistent good reviews from the press. Of course, they may not suit the type of car that is the Cerb.....

I've got Eagle F1's on mine, 235x40ZR17. I find them very good and allow me to explore full throttle without problems once warmed up. This may also be due to the geo setup and Ohlins shocks which always helps.

Fronts are Avon ZZ5's, also 235x40zr17, didn't see the point in changing them when the toyo 888's I had previously were worn.

I'll definitely stick with F1s front and back when the time comes unless someone suggests something better for regular (not just dry days) road use that doesn't wear down in minutes.

True, but I could equally rant about a set of tyres I once had on a 2wd Cosworth that would lose all sense of grip in all but the driest conditions, so while few if any have done back to back comparisons, there may be experiences of really bad tyres out there which are equally as good if not better than good experiences. I also suppose that unless you drive 10/10 all of the time, two tyres may not be that different to non racing drivers.
