Mornin’ All,

Just been running through TVR’s new parts site and found an interesting chatting point, IMO.

They state that 18” Front Spiders should be fitted all round on Cerbs ‘to ensure the correct offset’. I have, of course been running fronts on fronts and rears on rears for the last 10 years. They, incidentally, say that the rears are ‘for all TVR Speed 6 engined cars except the Cerbera’.
I know that we have had several threads before on front/rear fittings but I am a little shocked to read this definitive statement by the factory.
Has anyone ever done any back to back testing with their baby with fronts and rears on the rear axle ?

Just interested, that’s all getmecoat

My car come with fronts all round. I managed to pick up some brand new never used wheels 2 front 2 rears. I swapped them all over as they was in better condition then the originals.

The tears on the rear rubbed the inside of the arch. Not to bad with just two passengers but that and camping stuff made it really bad to gone back to fronts all round. Tyres sizes are the same any way.

Interestingly SP12's are 8's and 9's with similar offsets to running rear spiders all round..

The problem with spiders is they were never really meant for the Cerb, tyres are over stretched on the front and you need lock stops and on some Cerbs you need to cut down the stub axles to get front spiders on the rear otherwise the centre caps won't fit, so it's not just rears that don't always fit the rear.

I had front spiders all round on mine when I bought it. I switched to 18" RL7s which are 9" wide rears and 8" front, not sure what the offsets are but never had any rubbing issues. They are lighter so improve handling, 225 tyres fit the fronts properly and I've had 265s on the rear in the past with no rubbing.

Thanks all, When I originally had mine there was rubbing on the rears but from the exhaust pipe. Once I'd changed that it's been fine.
The turn-in is beyond anything I've had before, by quite a few Universes worth so I might try changing summat around in the summer.

As my Mancunian mate says.... "I'll give it another coat of lookin' at".

No idea what they weigh tbh. When I swapped them over just by picking one up the weight difference felt quite significant.

Just "borrowed" a set of 18" spiders, to try on my Sp6, they are 33 + 42 et,s and they do rub, both front and rear...,, unfortunately..
But they have odd tyres . Ie 235-40-18 on the front and 245-40-18 on the rear, so im guessing they need to be 35 profile..
And the ride is a bit harder, as my car has 16 fronts and 17 rears,, yes an odd set...
PS,,, XK120, im sure I spotted you and your car at X works this last week. Nice machine , and I do like those wheels you have...
