Strangest thing.

When I turned on the ignition this evening my wiper washer jets started to dribble fluid and the pump kept whining.

I took out the Steering Wheel Functions Control Unit (ME0153) and water poured out of it!

Inside it, on one corner of the PCB, all the components were covered in thick green oxidisation.

I cleaned it up, dried it with a hairdryer and put it back in the car, but when I pressed the black button nothing happened scratchchin

When I went to open the boot to check the fuses and it wouldn't open.

The car is literally dead in the water, nothing working.

I had intermittent steering wheel functions a while ago and changed the ribbon cable, but I now suspect the cable was fine and the root cause was a little puddle of water sloshing around in the control box.

I'm guessing it's probably caused by condensation build up over the years?

I'll drill a hole in each corner of the housing after I get it fixed.

Does anyone have a spare unit for sale?

Looks like I'll be taking the Jag to Peppa Pig World in the morning.. #shakesfist #curseshandmadecars #cantwaituntilitsfixed smile

Any help or advice would greatly appreciated.

Best wishes

Aide, looks like you need to use the secret entry method to get in the car and check the fuses. Fuse #7 has probably blown. Hopefully once you've replaced that all will be well.

I tried googling to find the ex factory electrics and dash experts but can't find them.

Thanks CerbWill and thanks Gary.
I found an exchange unit, should arrive next week.

I wonder where that water came from in the first place... 14 years of condensation build up?
