Tappet adjustment

My engine sounds like a bag of nuts & bolts to say the least when its cold

I'm not overly concerned as it drives nice & smooth, goes like the clappers and sounds pretty quite when driving once it has warmed up a bit.

However when it gets to about 5500rpm it starts tapping and clattering again quite loudly.

Any theories?

If its the tappets are these something you can adjust yourself or does it mean a trip to the garage

It is normal for the car to sound really bad on start up until all the clearances are correct when warm. Who does your servicing?

A super chap in kent. The company is called Brooklands of Biddenden and he specailises in high performance luxury cars. He's got very good contacts at Waldonway TVR main dealers that he can call upon for specialist tools and knowledge etc.

Highly recommended.

Thanks but I get mine done in Daventry, Steve Gugliemi ex Tuscan champ has looked after the car sinse nearly new.

I see your car is a 1999 and a 4.5? So no 'Clatter' cams for you. Cant understand why it would be really noisey, maybe we should compare?

I wouldnt let anyone but Joolz touch my tappets! And I advise all of you the same... when its tappets time, get that bit done by him.... ( its my recommendation, plus he can do it while you take a stroll through industrial estate, a lot to see and many dodgy geezers hanging around )

MonkeymanLee! I use Julian too. Top bloke. Good old fashioned service, appreciates I run the Chim on a budget and actually listens to your input. (I've known a lot of garages who treat you like a moron). He works on a lot of Cerby's and Speed 6s as well as RV8s.

Why don't you actually use Walldonway? Very nice bunch of helpful chaps who are obviously giving advice to your guy.

Could be we will lose Walldonway if we don't use them. I'm sure joolz is a top man, but he's also very busy and lives up north. A small point but one worth mentioning

Unless you have a good supply of jumpers thats four journeys at 150 mile a journey.

I'm told the extra cold of the north can actually shorten the life of the Cerb engine, which is why so many dead ones can be found in blackpool.
