I have been very aware of the strange sensation that the PS has stopped working altogether under heavy braking on track for some time now (years in fact). I originally assumed that it was a geo setup issue, but now that I'm sure the front suspension is working correctly, I'm confused by the steering almost locking up under hard braking.

Anyone else experienced similar, and any ideas as to the cause?

I am not going to be a fat lot of use but have you got the original ps driven by the woodruff key or a retro fit electric?
If its the former then surely it might be a woodruff issue and would it not be easy and relatively cheap to fit the saxo kit?

I have never detected any sign that my power steering tightens up under heavy breaking, I have needed new underpants occasionally though.

I have had this but only right at the limit of adhesion.

Graham Hill bend is one place it tended to happen most almost as you load the suspension up on turn in the car sort of says "that will do, you can't defy the laws of physics" if I continue to push harder I end up with a bit of a slide onto the grass.

Is that the sort of scenario you mean, trail braking into a corner and the steering starts to push back?

Yes, exactly that. What I'm wondering now is whether that is specific the TVR/Cerb or whether other cars can suffer the same effect. My 928 does not do that (same track same corners), although obviously the Cerb brakes are much stronger.

I heard that they early prototype F Type jags did this but Mike Cross was not happy with the way the steering loaded up, so he went back to the drawing board and redesigned the front suspension. I don't think that TVR had the budget or in all probability the know how.

I don't get this any more with the 600lb front springs and 450 on the rear and Nitron dampers, it seems to have been cured purely by accident.
