Morning all,

Just weighing up my options for refurbing the water rails.

Blasting / wiring brushing and then VHT paint

Ceramic coating

Hi-temp powder coating

Does anybody have experience of the above or any alternatives?

I promise I'll stop asking questions soon and make a contribution ;o)

Electrochemical corrosion stripping then polishing and zinc plating worked for me.

I just wire brushed mine and then sprayed them with black hamerite. It took a few coats as the paint is quite thin when you spray it but they look just fine and it cost next to nothing and it didn't take too long either.

Cheap and quick, I like it. I guess I was little worried about the proximity of the exhaust manifolds and whether paint of some sort would be up to the job. Sounds like it is.

Ta for that

I've had the same done to the water rails, not fitted any of them yet, so no idea how they will fare, but it has to be better than before.

Work was done by Classic Powder Coating, Uxbridge for a nominal cost as part of a large batch.

Wow, that's quite a colour.

I decided to rub the rails down and then paint them in Hycote VHT Aluminium paint. Only done one so far as I'm supposed to be resting after my Hernia op...... I'll post some pics when they're back on the engine.

KTM Orange, which doesn't work at all with the Rosso Pearl - but I am intending to do a colour change as soon as funds permit.
