Another ECU thread
Discussion
Sorry for starting yet another thread for this topic but I'd need your advise on the following.
I have actually never managed to connect to the ECU whatever I tried (different cables, different laptops, even fellow Cerbera drivers failed - so with some certainty it wasn't me with my two left hands). Although this was never an issue so far with the car running ok, I really wonder if the ECU is knackered.
Is there a way to diagnose if the ECU working ok... preferably a step-by-step guide?

If the car is running OK then that's a pretty solid assumption that the ECU is working at least correctly from the car's perspective, as it supplies all the adjustments to the engine at run time based on Fuel Maps etc.
On the connectivity front have you tried both the external serial connection (3 pin or other depending on the manufacture date of your car) _and_ the 9 pin serial connector that is actually inside the ECU?
If you haven't tried the 9 pin one, unscrew the 4 hex bolts from the top of the MBE ECU and you can slide the top cover off and see if exposed in the middle of the PCB
