Steaming engine!
Discussion
Hi Folks,
Just back form an afternoon run in the cerb, all went well, temps all normal but as I reversed back into garage noticed large amounts of steam from offside bonnet (about where water filler cap is). Left it idling for a few seconds to check if temps soared but it stayed around 100 (95-100 seems to be the idling norm for mine in past experience) but then steam kept coming so turned off. Noticed puddle of water running from under car as I left (the now dark) garage. Going to check if filler cap sealed on tight tomorrow but any other ideas?? please don't say burst rad...

I'd noticed some steam from mine recently, always seemed on the nearside. Turned out to be a couple of split hoses. Both heater hoses actually. 5/8" one had split because of hose clip clamping it. 3/4" one rubbed through from a bracket on the chassis. Tied well out of the way now.
Lucky for me a cheap and simple fix. I had no problems refilling mine either. Just vented air from vent plug on rad. I understand some Cerbs are a pig to fill without getting airlocks.
Hope yours is as simple to remedy.

a wet day a while ago i pulled my cerby into the garage, stalling it so far in and having to jump start her(the car)once the amp meter was fitted *& all fuses out ,my neace was watching the meter for movement ,3-4 fuses later she pipes up UNCLE JOHNY THE CARS SMOKING, its ok its just steam from the rain. a second time UNCLE JOHNY,I DONT THINK IT IS,HER DESPERATE VOICE CHIRPS UP.opON looking between the boot lid and boot,i could see through the screens,a white cloud rising from the centre bulkhead,um usualy the steams from the o/s /f .
thats not steam,so i grabed the halon extinguisher out of the car and put the flames out that were licking at the bulkhead like a dog licking its lips in a butchers window, HANNA chirps up once again I DIDNT KNOW NITRUS COULD PUT FIRES OUT
it turned out the goodritch clutch bleed pipe from the clutch caught the srouded starter motor power cable, shorting to earth, getting hot, melting the plastic liner, spilling the clutch fluid and in turn ignighting it! WHITCH LEADS TO ANOTHER STORY ABOUT DOUGH(SHIT)NUTS,PLOD AND PLAYING WITH FIRE.
