Don't want to sidetrack the thread, but, ABS anyone? Even the Porsche GT3 which dispenses with driver's aids has ABS.
Only because they produce over 500 per year! remember, TVR have a type approval which means they can by-pass this.
On this note, isnt smolensky talking of fitting it on future tvrs anyway?

Here we go again!
:rantstart:
It seems eveytime someone has the misfortune of an accident in a TVR, the same old things get brought back up!...If its not ABS, its airbags, if its not airbags, its Traction control, if its not traction control, its something else!!!!
...fact is TVR dont add these bits!....the cars made by TVR are £/performance unbeatable compared with other marques within the same performance range...so if one wants 'ABS', Airbags or Traction control.....go and buy a more expensive marque that already has them! :rantover: Added to say....sorry to hear of your bad news Mark, and are you planning to get another Cerbie to replace it?

Does anyone know the scrap value of a 96 4.2 Cerb?
Unfortunatly my cars been involved in an accident and the insurance co. have put it 'beyond economical repair'. They are offering me 16k and the offer of buying it back for 2.5k.
Does this sound like a reasonable offer?
IMO 16K payout for a 96 4.2 & buy back for 2.5K is a suprisingly generous offer, i assume there has been some haggling to get to these figures ? i would have thought you could get around £5,000 for the parts/ car ?

Wrong thread to post this LA - As far as I understand it, Mark was hit by another car when almost stationary, so move along, or keep on topic for Mark's benefit.

Glad to hear it - make sure the third party accepts full responsibility and therefore we do not end up paying through our insurance for the idiot's inepitude!
PS LA - Check stopping distances with and without ABS.
PPS Everyone else - be careful out there.
PPPS New owners stepping into 350bhp+ rear wheel drive sportscar at 1100Kg and no ABS - learn how to drive it first NB it's not quite like a hot hatch!!!

What sort of mileage/condition was the car in before the prang. £16k soounds like a very good figure to me, I wouldn't take them up on the £2.5k buy back figure though. You should be able to get £1k for the engine and maybe £1-1.5k for the rest, but not significntly more to be worth the hassle.
Unless you have a particular attachment to the car, I'd buy another and walk away.
Thanks guys, i'm gutted, as Eddie say's i've only just got the car last November.
But i will say that i am used to driving fast cars, TVR's, and no 'Hot Hatches' either(I don't think that was a dig at me, CiderwithCerbie, but i thought i'd clear that up).
Basically I was driving straight ahead at a set of lights and some 'nob' who was in a right turn lane decided to change his mind at the last minute, and pulled across in front of me, and 'wam bam no thank you maam'
The car will be a Cat D, i think he said.
Its on my mind to repair this one 'cos its got history, it was just released from the factory before i got it. I've just got to work out whether the history is worth the ag' of getting it fixed.
The car had 30k on the clock, and was in excellent condition.

They first offerd me 15k but have since gone up to 16k i want to try to push for 17k because thats what i paid a few months ago, but, get the feeling that they are not going to go any further because of the 'good' buy back offer.

Chimaera was kindly written off for me about a year or so ago by another car going into the front side. Needed a new front end and bonnet which I am in the process of putting on/finishing at the moment. I didnt have the option of buying it back direct from the insurance company, I had to go through their salvage company, so you are lucky!

but if you do buy it back to brake yourself let me know how much you want for your spiders, i take it that one of them is damaged???

....well actually as you should mention it!
