ACCIDENT ABOUT TO HAPPEN?

Anyone got any views or experience on running two different makes of tyre at the same time, ie front to back?

It would seem, going by recent/past threads on this topic, that quite a few have different tyres on fronts to rears. The definate would be the different makes on the same axle.
Do a search using the word 'tyres' on this forum and be prepared to wade through dozens of threads on this topic....

I have Toyos on the front and Bridgeys on the rear of my Cerb. I also ahave a mix accross the axles on my Xantia - but that is legal. OSF Continental, NSF Michelin. No handling probs at all, but it is a diesel barge.

I would be disinclined to mix manufacturers on the same axle on something high performance - Higher streses etc,etc. Mind you my BIL had different tyres across the axles on his M3 - but he drives like a pensioner anyway.

* Different tyres on the same axle = potentially suicidal.
* Different tyres on different axles = can range from being far worse than standard to far better than standard.

Anecdote: Had S03s on the front of the Tuscan and Eagle F1s on the front. Worst handling car I've ever had. Switched them over, and now it's up there with the Elise.

No wonder the car handled so badly if you had all the tyres on the front...would'nt have had any grip at the back at all!!

Was S03 front, F1 rear. Now S03 rear, F1 front. And all is good in the world.
