Unusual Cerbera Boot Bagde

Hiya, can anyone shed any info on this... found a Gold Cerb boot badge on eBay, usual gold with black inside, as the black was a bit scratched we deceided to remove all the paint. to my surprise it was made of solid brass, and not plated. and wow does it polish up nice too.
So....is it original? did TVR originally fit Solid brass badges instead of the Gold or chrome plated steel ones?

am i the only one thinking this looks like, well, not brass really? brass, like gold, is called brass cos it is 'brass' in colour (actually, its called brass cos in brass the Zn and Cu are dissolved in one another to form a metallic solution. They do not form a compound in the normal sense that we use the term "compound" meaning a definite molecular composition. In the same sense we do not classify salt dissolved in water as a "compound" because over most of the concentration range the relative amounts of salt and water can be varied continuously. There are some compounds that do form specific compounds with water, and there are some metallic combinations that do have a fixed composition forming inter-metallic compounds, but for the purposes of this post thats not funny enough).so, youll forgive me, but what you have there is a badge made of purest Dull Grey Metal.

thats not to say its not nice and/or valuable though. its just not brass.

leave it outside and see if it gets verdi gris, if it does, ill be happy to eat my hat. what the hell, ill eat several hats (no straw boaters though, they dont agree with me).

Edited to say: that was supposed to be funny, not horrifically pedantic. im not sure id pass as a metallurgist if i got trained and paid in metal, and my house and wife were made of metal. though at least she'd be able to dispense with the frighteningly expensive make up cleansing pads, and just use brillo pads like all the rest of us. sensible policies for a happier world.
