speed 6 v's V8

I have started looking into a cerb (currently have a chim), there seems to be alot of debate about whether V8 is better than speed 6. The one car that has taken my eye at the mo' is a 4.0L speed 6

I know there have been threads about speed 6 but has any one compared them at all

I have heard people say that speed 6 break down alot more etc etc.

I dont want to listen to the hear say can what do you all reckon, you all have them (I assume some V8 and some speed 6) are there advantages of one over the other etc etc

Speed 6:

Pros:
* Very responsive
* Cheaper servicing
* Dry Sump
* Power all the way up the rev range
* Very UNIQUE exhaust note (with decat+straight thru)
* Very driveable at bumper to bumper speeds

Cons:
* Rebuild intervals are a nightmare (unless TVR have sorted the problems now, only time will tell with the Tuscan 2's)
* The V8 will spank it upto 180mph
* Only 6 cylinders


Speed 8:

Pros:
* Feckin scary in 1st and 2nd gear - power comes in too quick.
* Very solid engine till roughly around 30-50k (but depends if she was looked after well too)
* Will spank a speed 6 up to 180mph
* 8 cylinders!

Cons:
* Diesel Engine noise
* Dodgy starter motors
* Bad clutch setup
* Drinks more fuel in comes cases
* Unless you're a seasoned driver, can be a little bit of a handful round bends.


Conclusion:

Speed 6 will look after you (but who will look after it???)...
Speed 8 will run your grandma over and eat tarmac for breakfast....

All biased and in my opinion of course...

4.5 V8 is the only Cerb to have... if you want a 6 then get a Sagaris... at least you get a 3 Year 36k Mile warranty and the V8 mob won't think you're girl.

re: 4.5 VS 4.2, only the nutters and posers wont agree that the difference is 95% in your head, only 5% real. And you can have your cake and eat it by visiting Austec who will raise you 10% with a remap and bits

In summary, the Spd6 is FAR more responsive, doesnt sound as good, has more than enough power, may need more money thrown at it, technically is slower but is far more driveable (you wont notice the difference re: it being 'technically' slower) but most importantly if you get a V8 you'll be able to take the piss out of eezeegeezer who, to top my J Clarkson in my cerbera photos is already speaking to his "friend" rachel stevens about a photo shoot in his spd 6

Adi, an unbiased opinion - If you're thinking about a S6, just make sure it hasn't had a rebuild around the 12k mile mark (and get written confirmation of this) most of the hype about the engine comes from pre 2000 models which were very prone to screwing up especially if not serviced properly and not looked after - some say there was a design fault in tappet height - but if they were to go belly up then it was usually around the 12k mileage. It is extremely resposive, you have power right through the rev range and the drive is very smooth. With the V8 you get marginally better acceleration after 120mph and a lot better after 150mph (but then again it does depend whose behind the wheel!!)and the sound is awesome especially if decatted, listen to ukbob's or eddie's, getting mine decatted soon - so will be able to compare. The drive is a lot less smooth especially in the lower revs. like with all cerbs and tivs in general we have to be fully prepared to have that "slush" fund to keep them on the road. The S6 is harder to work on, and the V8 is going to be replaced sooner or later.My advice would be to drive both and take the one that gives you the biggest grin.

At that speed, all you do is hold her straight and put the foot down to the floor... and its actually slower after 150! My 3000GT-TT gets to 170 quicker than a cerbera from 120!!!! And I've tried the top speed thing in all 3 past cerb ownerships...
Turbos are interesting in the 150+ arena, ask any Porscha owner gone up that end of the spectrum - they keep going without a sign of slowing down!...

Dont suppose there are many V8 taxis in Eastbourne? In fact, there isnt much in EB full stop!

I'd challenge the claim that an AJP will "spank" an S6. Well, a sorted Red Rose, anyway. Maybe both in the Cerb, but if the S6 is in a (lighter?) Tusc, that's certainly not the case...

Oh it looks like once you buy a V8 Adi you get a free sense of humour thrown in - but it would help if you had one before you part with your hard earned cash for the penis extension - ukbob is going thru' an early mid-life crisis - needs to sound big n' loud and likes to be called Daddy
but those of us with a bit of style and panache don't need to shout about it (esspecially if you've been driving for more than 6 months ) - you either got it or you ain't!!!
