am looking for a cerb as an occasional car, would like to find one with the old style lights on, am happy to restore something like the chassis etc as part of the process as i am guessing most need doing if not done already..... i have found a few on the web so wondered if anyone knew any of them or indeed if they know of one that i have missed....?

Tony Gilbert Cars are a reasonable dealer, seem honest and know a bit about what is not a complex car but a very quirky car.
TVR Glen is a TVR breakers, they will probably have had that Cerbera repaired from accident damage to sell it.
Cost of a chassis refurbishment is £8-£10K done properly at a dealer, £6K if you do all the work your self, I am collecting mine on Saturday after a refurb.
If buying from a dealer and paying the dealer premium I would make sure they are a TVR specialist. Mortimers for instance I think specialise in Porsche, Tony Gilbert are entry level TVR specialist.
Go and look at them, get underneath and check the corners of the out riggers carefully, always buy on condition not mileage, these cars are better with use.
I am happy to take a run out with you to look at some cars if quite local like some of these seem to be.

cheers mate, i was thinking of getting an inspection done etc as i am not sure i would trust myself with looking at a car like the cerb, i bought a chim with a massive hangover in a dinner suit from the night before but got lucky with that car which ran faultlessly....

If so then it certainly sounds good, the SP6 is a lovely engine and if the chassis and history is as described then it would be well worth a trip down for a look.
The price is on the strong side for a SP6 but if condition is as described it is probably OK.

Be careful which dealer you use. The problems that can be lying undiscovered can cost £Ks and with an entry price cerb you'll be lucky to get a warranty. I know of a dealer who buys tvrs at dirt prices from the sprint mag and classifieds, does NOTHING to them and whacks 6-8k on it for the privalige. You just need to get to the cars before him.

Hi Andy,Just to warn you..... Cerbs dislike 'occasional' use more than any car I've ever known.
Be careful that you understand what you're letting yourself in for.

Have loved Cerbs since I first saw one in the late 90s and now in a position to buy and maintain in perfect condition. I have just started to search and I popped into Soveregn to look at their car as I was passing. I don't know TVRs - I've had Lotus, Jags and an M5 but the car felt in good condition to me, but not perfect - E.g those weird carbon fibre parts below rear windscreen and on front pillars were very discoloured in places and there were a fair few stone chips etc. It also took some starting, the passenger door opened, but then refused to close and the alternator squealed when it did start. Maybe this is normal for a Cerbera, but seemed to me like a car that has been well cared for, but not "maintained regardless of cost". Reason given for sale was plausible, namely that owner's kids had grown up and he fancied a change (to a classic 911 Turbo). Fair enough.
Will be posting asking for advice on how mad you have to be to take a Cerbera on without much mechanical skill, but that's for another day.

Personally I wouldn't buy a Cerb or any TVR from a standard trader. The cars are too niche for them to really know anything about.
I bought my car privately from a PH member who was really honest about what he had done, what needed to be done and the niggles/quirks so I bought it knowing exactly what I was walking in to so there were no real surprises. I also called the specialist garage that serviced and maintained it and talked through the engine status in more detail.
I woul have happily also bought from a specialist trader, However they were a lot more money at the time.
This is my first TVR so I had no real idea what I was looking out for, other than the helpful advice I got from here.
Buying from someone who really knew the car was a real bonus for me.
Not that any of that really helps you with this car, just my 2p.
Uxbridge is close to me so I might see if I can swing down at the weekend and take a look. Will keep you posted if I do.

I would get an inspection done anyway, speaking of which can anyone recommend someone near Uxbridge who does good inspections? Judging by all the positive comments on here, I will probably get the one I buy maintained by Str8six (unless anyone can PM me to say not and recommend another NW ofLondon?), so I'll get in touch with them. Shame their yellow one is sold. I loved the look of that.

I spoke to the garage in Iver today to see if I could go and look at it tomorrow, if I don't have to work. Incidentally the first Cerb I ever drove was from here. It was a real dog and made me realise how bad they can be for pretty strong money.If I can get down there and take it out I will let you know.
