Engine Numbers - DVLA haven't a clue...
Discussion
So, my car's original engine number on the V5 was 4200413. About six years ago, engine was changed for 4200620 (Full number is actually 733P4200620, but I understand the first four digits don't really count). In any event, it's presumably good news as the current engine is 207 engines after the original which I assume means it is less likely to have chocolate components...
Where I'm stuck is in trying to find which car my current engine came from. Surprisingly, DVLA say they don't have that information as their database is not set up that way - they only work on registration numbers. This sounds like b@llocks as I assume that if the police find a an engine they believe to be stolen, they can work out what car it came from. Has anyone come across this issue?
Alternatively, I've seen various mentions in the forums to a mythical individual who has all the information about every car that left the factory. Does anyone know whether such a person exists? If they do, they're probably sick to the back teeth of people asking stupid questions about their cars, but I will gladly make a generous donation of beer tokens for this information as it will allow me to work out the mileage my of my current engine!

Hi Roger,
yes, there were Dave and Colin, who contributed under the name nemasis, who were the Cerbera Production Line managers at Blackpool but, after suffering too much stick, they stopped communicating on the forums.
They opened a TVR-based business oop north after the closure of the factory but I don't know if it's still open.
I've ploughed through my files and can't find a link,
My memory is, obviously, shot.
Sorry I can't be more help but perhaps some of 'the old bods' will have more data about them.
Best o'

Thanks very much for the reply Paul. Does this look like them (from the Blackpool Gazette in 2006)?
FORMER TVR workers have blamed Russian ownership for the slump in fortunes of the famous luxury car giant.
Mark Atherton, Colin Jones and Dave Smart run Automedon in Furness Drive, Poulton – set up earlier this year to service the Blackpool-built supercars.
