Hi Guys,

Recently had my aircon charged up and tested and they didn't find any leaks, went to use it yesterday and nothing .... removed the black cap on the fill point and it hissed, so I'm guessing as no leaks were found its the valve that's gone.

Question is are they a certain size and where can I get a pair from?

Thanks

Matt

Go to your aircon specialist, they will (should) have them in stock and, besides, they will need to extract/replace the refrigerant.
It's a massive offence to knowingly let it escape to atmosphere; unlimited fine or transport to the colonies (preferable) wink

Hi Mat,

You need one of these, its a shroeder valve removal tool. It sounds like your shroeder valve insert is loose. If you look into the charging point that is leaking you will see a central pin with two shoulders either side of it just like on a tyre valve. This tool goes over the pin (as this ((if pressed)) releases the gas) and twists the valve tight using the shoulders.

Righty tighty, lefty loosy! I have never found any other tool you can use to do this, just one of those tools that you probably wont use again, but they are cheep. Halfords sell them, but theirs dont look like this, they are a metal cross shaped thing. Most bike shops should have them.

Bit like a second marriage, that; 'The triumph of hope over experience'. Never unerstood why people entrust their belovéd cars to places like that. Isn't there an established and experienced aircon SPECIALIST in your neck-of-the-woods?

Haha, Mr Twinky, have you ever been to Cornwall? What is this "specialist" thing you speak of?..... Sounds like whitchcraft to me!..... When the men in black suits plonk a great big shiny Halfords in the middle of the county it has strange magnetic powers to all Folk, from farmer giles and his tractor to the young Janner and his Nova!! ........ We feel we have no choice! Its that, or back to the garage and the boy with the banjo!!!........ And you never go there, unless you really have to.!!!!! musicyikes

All the luck in the world, Matt, but as TR said, it's worth just checking that the valve is nipped up first.

Matt, did you get this sorted? I had a job in Hayle today, could have swung by on the way back to Plymouth but did'nt know how to contact you? I normally have r134a (ac gas) in my van.
