exhaust bandage.. have you done it?

Just read through the mail order goody book, and I saw some exhaust bandages, they say can reduce engine bay temp by upto 50%. Seems an 'easy' way to reduce the temperature without mechanical fixes. Anyone done this ,was it easy to apply, what was the difference?

did it on my blue scooby when i junked the OE downpipe and cats. cant say about engine temp, but it definitley encouraged a degree of post-exhaust flamage (not that i in any way endorse or encourage such activity). i know thats not what you asked, but i reckoned you secretly wanted to know so i told you anyway.

Have done it (not on a Cerbie though) and it does reduce the temp... Also rotted the manifold in about 12 months... Stainless manifolds last longer though.

It does transfer the heat to the unwrapped parts of the system which happens to be in the tunnel so not totally convinced about it.

What about some of those ceramic coatings? There is an outfit in Oxfordshire that do this, www.zircotec.com.

Zircotec only did external coating when I asked (which ensures heat is conducted thru the metal of the system), internal + external coating is done by camucoat in Warrington. Extremely effective - particularly comfort levels inside on hot days.

Sounds interesting, what sort of cost was it and did you just have the manifolds done?

IIRC I paid @£320 (cash) for a pair of manifolds (pre-cats removed) and y-piece (cat out) all coated internal & externally + a y-piece (with cat) coated externally (inside apart from cat which they mask off).

Nice old chap that does the work, takes a couple of weeks tho.
