Well it has been a blob of a week or two, made worse by the fact that I couldn't drive the Cerb - what with the front brakes juddering more than a fat bloke's jowls while watching topless trampolining.

Anyway the car's in the garage getting new front disks etc and I couldn't help myself. It just came out my mouth before I could stop it:

"Go on Dave, decat it will ya!"

Please someone tell me what I have let myself in for - I've got to wait until Friday to find out what I've done

It gets rather loud, especially if you have a sports zorst. Also prepare yourself to jettison large quantities of Optimax out your rear end in the form of a few flames. Pops and bangs at will and the ability to scare small children from the other end of the town.

Assuming you've got sports exhausts as well, you'll notice it's a much more raspy tone, particluarly at lower revs.

Floor it and you'll grin like you've eaten a new leven windscreen wiper .

Floor it in a tunnel and you'll need to change your trousers!

now, look, remembering were all friends here, ive been toying with decating my s6 too, but i keep finding posts both for and against it cos it may or may not reduce mid range torque and low down grunt and it may or may not give better throttle response. anyone know which ones true? no sp6 jokes pur-lease, not unless their totally new.

seriously, if i dont spend this money soon im gonna HAVE to buy new nappies for Daisy, and that would just be wasteful (theres still plenty of room in the one shes got on)

I guess the only way to know for sure is a before and after rolling road. Other than that, it's just the old scientific 'seat of the pants, feel it baby' test.

You've totally lost me. When did decatting a Cerb ever have anything to do with performance/torque/throttle response?

a good point well made, and im THOROUGHLY of the noisey school of thought. more so than anyone else i reckon. so much so, ive even dewaxed my ears in anticipation and trimmed back my lobe fluff. Now THATS dedication.

BUT so many people are saying that the car will feel like a micra afterward (except less reliable) that im begining to think that the increased noise wont be enough to outweigh the downsides, ie getting done by the 80,000 novas in GT Yarmouth (in the non-biblical sense of course).

wanna do it, dont wanna lose fun driveability (ie flooring it from time to time)

If you don't like it, all you've done is deprived little'un of a few nappies for a couple of months. You can always put the cats back on and use the de-cat pipes like a rolling pin to flatten the lumpy nappies.

You'll have to speak up, I've been driving my Cerb with decat for three days solid and I can't hear a thing, just this ringing sound.
