Don't unless you want your paint scratched to hell and watermarked...
Agree and I used to use one on mine occasionally and it was more trouble than it was worth for the reasons you mention. Better to polish really well and leave open to the elements so the wind can stop moisture building up.

My car sleeps under a car cover, partly due to the fact that there's a water leak at the bottom edge of the windscreen and also partly because I live in the kind of area where leaving such a car exposed would be an invitation for trouble.
I wash, dry and wax the car regularly and after a year, the paintwork is fine and there are no visible swirls, marks or pits on the freshly painted front end. Running the back of a fingernail over the paint doesn't reveal any surface imperfections and the texture is continuously slippery with a consistent shine.
If you must use one like me, my advice would be that you should buy an expensive one with a soft interior like mine.
Although I use a cover for now, when I take the car off the road for some work in a few weeks I hope to tackle the windscreen leak and I'll be considering a pop up garage to cover the car once it emerges from its winter cocoon with lots of new bits bolted on.

Hi Colin, yep I'm back! I always said to myself I'd come back. I pick up the new beast on Sunday - can't wait! You back with us in the TVR family after selling me your Chim all them years ago.
Colin
How did you like the chim? Would love to know where it is now.
I see you've moved on to the Tuscan, how's that going?
Hi Mike. Welcome back. I px'd my chimaera for the Tuscan two years ago and the guy totally restored it, but sadly it was one of the cars that was at Central TVR when they had the fire and it was completely destroyed.
Tuscan is awesome now I've had a Ls conversion. What a car!!
Would love to check out your new beast so we must meet up sometime.

Gravel is ideal for keeping the underside of the car damp.
the tent will keep the water off the bodywork but the gravel is going to be playing hell with your chassis.
You might be right but I leave the front open so there is a through flow of air and its got to be better than leaving it on gravel without rain cover surely .. should I get a ground sheet I wonder?!the tent will keep the water off the bodywork but the gravel is going to be playing hell with your chassis.
I've replied to several of these questions. There is always a mixed view of they scratch your paint vs they don't. I've been using them for years with no problems:

Since that post I have replaced the Noah cover as it started to disintegrate at about 4 years old (warranty is 3 years) and now the Cerb has been covered most of its life with me, about 5 1/2 years, no problem with paint etc. They are not cheap but I'm happy if I have to replace it every 4 years as it does the job I want it to do.
Funny enough the only paint problem I have had is if I park the wrong way round (nose down on a slope, which my drive is) and water can become trapped in the boot recess and caused some micro blistering, nothing to do with the cover being on or off.
