I plan to fit a pair of cerb seats to my chim.

Apart from the usual breakers up north, has anyone got any other suggestions where I can source a pair?

Colour Immaterial as I will have to have them recovered to match my interior.

All suggestions gratefully received.

Hi Peter,

Speak with Matthew for who retrimmed his. The seats look like they can be created on the frame and I did speak with a trimmer about this.

He sourced a pair of cerb seats first then had them recovered by Central iirc.

Worth a call to Douglas Valley Breakers (ignore their website offerings, always out of date)

I know we have had a chat about this already Peter, I feel I should contribute to the forum as it is pretty dead in here nowadays which is a shame.

I don't need to say much about the cerb seats as Graham has kindly linked to my original thread where I waffle on enough. Suffice to say I did not like the originals, not keen on the Tuscan seats but the cerb seats I did like but needed modifications for the correct driving position. Seats are a personal thing, what is good for one person not necessarily good for another.

I really liked your Elise seats in your Chim whenever you have taken me out on track, I cannot comment on what they are like on long journeys but I know the Probax versions are supposed to be very good according to fellow Lotus owners. The only thing I am not keen on with the Elise seats is the fact they are not original 'TVR OEM' seats and I am a sucker for originality, which yes is I know is kind of ironic now I technically have non-original seats but I try to modify mine to suit my needs but stay as close the original TVR DNA as possible.

Having said all that a rather tasty silver Griff popped up on Facebook earlier this year and it had fitted a pair of Elise seats. I had only ever seen original non-retimed Lotus seats in TVRs before and automatically dismissed them as not having the right look for a TVR. The owner of this car had his retrimed with the rest of the interior and I think they look bloody brilliant.

To be honest I still prefer my Cerb seats but when you consider how much you will need to part with for a pair, and if you need mods like mine then you are probably looking at not far off 2k all in. Lotus seats are readily available and cheap in comparison, they look great when retrimmed and they are technically a better seat compared to the TVR ones. Keep the orignals in the loft and have a pair of elise seats retrimed for half the price. Unless you have a burning desire for a set of cerb seats I would save your money and get yours retrimed.

Thanks for that Mathew.

I will more than likely have my Elise seats retrimmed.

Although I am still very interested if someone has a pair of cerb seats in their loft for a sensible price!

Hi Peter,

unless my memory is playing tricks on me, I phoned one of the trimming companies or the person Matthew names who has the parts and asked them if they could create a seat with the Cerb bolsters/foams from the standard chim ones and it should be possible.

Adrian at Central TVR I know has loads of seat spares so it was probably him.

It is possible to create a cerb seat from a Chim/Griff seat, same frame apparently, you just need the fibre glass back and bottom pieces. You can see in the below pic:

Not sure how cost effective it would be but I would certainly be worth asking about.

The existing chim seats are sooo short, the backs finish about 2/3rds up my back!

Can't see them being any good to adapt.

Is that the seats fault? I can't see the Cerbera ones being much different underneath

Peter
Forgot to mention you can take them away and try them if you want before you invest.

Can't be fairer than that. I am probably coming up to Coventry in the next week to Chesman engineering, maybe I could pick them up then?

What a gentleman.

I will be interested to see what you think. Unless you ditch the runners and mount directly to the floor I can guarantee they will be too high for you. Just bear in mind you can modify them to sit lower as I have done.

If you do like the seats then you are more than welcome to try mine out for height if you are ever down this way.
