Regular engine temp

I'm wondering if the thermostat has failed as in the handbook it quotes 90 as the regular running temp. I run at around 80 - 90 when doing round town 30 - 40mph, but on a motorway run 80 - 90mph the temp drops to around 70 or below. Question is should it stay around 90 at motorway speeds ?

The fans cut in ok at around 95 and the second at 100 when stuck in a jam.

Sounds ok, it's the colder weather and motorway speeds that drop it to 70. In summer it will prob be around 80 at same speeds.

The cerb gauge isn't like the repmobile, it doesn't sit solid at 90 deg.

I run at 82 on M way with it going up to 90 in town and the higest I have ever seen it is 98 in traffic.

Mine's been running rather low the last few months on motorway driving too, 60-70ish, which in my opinion is too low. (not too sure about car engines, but on the ships I work on if the jacket temp drops below 70C we often suffer cracket liners)

I was thinking the same thing, that maybe the thermostat on my cerb was playing up.

I'm a bit worried, as I went for a hoon around today, and although it is hardly steaming hot out there, the car was hovering around the 95 when cruising at about 40 or 50 mph. Beginning to wonder if I have a bit of a cooling problem. I know the fans work and keep things sorted, but I just reckon it should run a little cooler "naturally".

any thoughts?

I recently posted the same info to console a fearfull UKBOB!

If you connect your Cerberas ECU to a laptop, you'll see the true water temperature displayed. On my car, the temperature indicated by the guage is actually 12 degrees higher than what the computer says.

When my 1st cooling fan comes on at 92 degrees, my guage is reading well over 100. As long as I hear those fans come on, and they switch off again when the temp drops i'm happy.

Don't rely on your guage giving an accurate reading.

I would suspect your guage routing is next to a water pipe.
