Hi all.

Noticed this am that my PAS was notchy on my car when first started. A couple of turns of the wheel and all was fine...

Any ideas? Very cold out there today. Fluid full and no leaks....

Any advice appreciated. It is a 4.5.

Thanks

Universal joints might need greasing?

Will check thanks.

Also suspect slipping on PAS shaft due to oil Viscosity as it is fine when warm. Will probably need the grub screw mod sooner rather than later as a precaution.

Cheers

My Cerb is a daily driver but over Xmas, it hasn't been used for 4 days. My dead ahead has become stiff to turn out of, bit of a clean up of the U/J has helped a bit but I'm thinking it might need a remove and refurb.

Looks a bit tight - how easy is it to get off?

When I had a uj start to seize it introduced a notchy feeling at random times. When the drive started to fail then the power steering went away when warm and at low revs.

If it is the UJs then they will probably need replacing, make sure you do them up really tight. Also note that most replacement Ujs seem to need some metal removed to allow sufficient joint angle to be achieved.

I believe a member of the forum also found a boot which would fit over the UJ to prevent future issues. It may have been Supateg.

I had the identical symptoms to this about a year ago on my Griff. All the UJ’s were fine. Turned out to be a corroded N/S ball joint due to a very small split in the rubber boot letting in water that must have been missed during at least one MOT and Service.
